Phnom Penh - A French woman was killed Wednesday when she was struck by a mini-bus after being pulled off a motorcycle taxi by purse-snatchers in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh, police said.
Aurelia LaCroix, 23, died instantly following the noon-time robbery, which occurred when at least two young men on a motorcycle pulled up alongside her and grabbed her purse, said Ben Khun, deputy Phnom Penh traffic police chief.
"The victim fell off the motorcycle taxi and the mini-bus ran her over," he told AFP.
He said it was unclear if LaCroix lived in Cambodia or was a tourist.
The robbers escaped, he said, while both the bus and taxi drivers fled the scene, he added.
While robberies have decreased overall in Cambodia, purse and chain-snatching are on the rise and are particularly problematic around major holidays, affecting Cambodians and foreigners alike.
Cambodia next week is set to begin celebrating the Water Festival which draws millions of people to the capital for four days of boat races and parties.

Here are simple solutions to the traffic robbery!
First the government must demand that the traffic must flow in orderly manner so that anything happen on the road can be stop and block in an orderly manner to catch the criminals or provided help at the scene of accident!
Second the government must demand that no two people can ride a motorcycle except a woman can ride behind!
Third the government must target those motorcyclists that have illegal ownership, have criminal background or have bad driving record and get them off the road!
Finally enforce the damn law on the book and have those violators go back to re-education camp or do community service or lock them up especially they are criminal!

Honestly! If a guy has the money to buy and own a motorcycle or car and would he uses it to rob people? Hell no! A lot of time the criminals use stole motorcycle or car to commit crime! I never said that there are no crime in Cambodia because crime rate associate with poverty and lack of crime deterrent.
Currently, our poverty rate has dropped satisfactorily but our crime deterrent is somewhat still grave without capital punishment like Singapore, China, Laos, or Vietnam, but nonetheless, our crime rate have indeed improved. I wish we could reinstate the old capital punishment that we used to have so that the crime rate is even a lot better, but there are to many stupid oppositions.
