Phnom Penh - Cambodian National Assembly leader Heng Samrin Friday called for the international community to take a "softer, peaceful position" in negotiations with North Korea and allow the reclusive communist state to develop trade links, a spokesman said. Heng Samrin's spokesman Koam Kosal told reporters the senior politician had made the remarks during a meeting Friday with visiting North Korean Prime Minister Kim Yong Il.

Kim - who is no relation to North Korean leader Kim Jong Il - arrived Thursday for a four-day visit to strengthen trade and diplomatic ties between the two nations.

"We reaffirm that Cambodia fully supports the peace process to solve the problems of national reconciliation between the two Koreas," Kosal quoted Heng Samrin as saying.

"We appeal to all sides to take a softer, peaceful position on North Korea," Heng Samrin added in a statement that appeared to directly target the US, which has sought sanctions against North Korea.

Cambodian officials have previously said they feel an affinity with North Korea's international isolation after suffering a similar fate during the Cold War in the 1980s.

Kosal said Kim had indicated that North Korea was willing to venture out of its reclusive position and had pegged its development and integration into the global economy to its economic development, and especially international trade.

"This is the policy that can bring all sides to solve the problem," Kim was quoted as telling Heng Samrin. One of Cambodia's most senior statesmen, Heng Samrin is also honorary president of the ruling Cambodian People's Party.

Kim has discussed mines and energy with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen who pledged to increase Cambodian private investment in base metal mines in the reclusive communist state.

Kim and his delegation have already signed agreements on shipping and trade with the Cambodian commerce and transport ministers.

Former king Norodom Sihanouk will host a gala banquet for the delegation Friday night inside the Royal Palace, according to the schedule, and King Norodom Sihamoni will also receive them for an audience before they fly north to Siem Reap to tour the ancient Angkor Wat temple complex Saturday and fly on to Laos Sunday.

Cambodia and North Korea have maintained cordial diplomatic relations and Sihanouk makes frequent trips to the reclusive communist state. His bodyguard unit is made up of some of North Korea's finest agents - a lifetime gift from the North Korean government.

CHINESE CULTURE INTRODUCED INTO CAMBODIA FROM 1955-2007:
A: From 1955-2007 , PM CHOU ENLAI /CHAIRMAN MAO TSE TOUNG, HAD PROMISED TO KING SIHANOUK CAMBODIA INDEPENDENCE , AS OF TODAY , IT'S NOT DELIVERED.

Worse, CHINA IS BECOMING PARTNER WITH VIETNAM IN THIS CRIMES by supporting
VIETNAMESE OCCUPATION OF CAMBODIA, THROUGH THE CPP/HUN SEN/NGUYEN VAN SON (HOK LUNDI)/HOR NAM HONG regime , against the 10 UN resolutions calling Vietnam to cease her occupation of Cambodia, not respected.
