Lawyers for for former Khmer Rouge leaders Ieng Sary and wife Thirith plan to file a petition against a tribunal decision to detain them ahead of atrocity crimes trials.

The courts said Wednesday they would not release the couple, arrested Monday and charged with crimes against humanity, for their roles as ministers under the regime.

The two could suffer increasing ill health if detained, the lawyers said.

"There is no benefit of detaining him," Ieng Sary attorney Ang Udom said.

Phat Pov Seang, lawyer for Ieng Thirith, said he was preparing the necessary documentation to appeal the detention.

Why we need to release them to live in luxury lives. They should live in the ways they have imposed to their victims 30 years ago. They should live in a shelter with 1m of plastic sheet and eat half of bowl of porride on each meal. All their properties should be confiscicated and put into a guardian trust so that they are not fallen into Hun sen bank account. All children must also be retained and be clothed as a suspect of criminal. All khmer rouge leaders like Keat Chhon, Chuon Mom, Sihanouk etc.. and etc.. should also be arrested for the same reason. The killing of khmer rouge regime on Cambodian race was not a small matter. it was a matter of race cleansing by these animals. Therefore Cambodian need to treat these evils leaders as the most serious threat to Cambodian race than blaming Vietnam. We must compare these evils like cancer disease to Cambodian socirty which is worst than the death killed by outside ennemies. Areak Prey
