Justice in Cambodia: All the key members of the regime must be summoned to explain their actions ... including those in the current gov't

Justice in Cambodia

Thursday, November 15, 2007
Opinion sent to The International Herald Tribune (France)

The arrest of another two former Khmer Rouge leaders represents significant progress for the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia in seeking justice for almost two million Cambodians who perished under the Khmer Rouge, ("Ex-official of Khmer Rouge and wife arrested," Nov. 12). But will the court be able to find true justice for the victims?

In order to draw a complete picture of the chain of command and responsibilities in the genocide, all the key members of the regime must be summoned to explain their actions.

We are not sure if the courts will be brave enough to call former Khmer Rouge ministers, advisers, zone and district chiefs and other commanders who are serving in the current government to testify in the court.

It may be impossible. The Khmer Rouge Tribunal Law seems to have built a safety fence around these people. The courts will only try "the most senior and most responsible leaders" of the Khmer Rouge.

This may mean that the courts can only try a handful of Khmer Rouge leaders. like Brother Number 2, Nuon Chea, the Khmer Rouge head of state, Khieu Samphan, Foreign Minister Ieng Sary and Social Minister Ieng Thirith - who can be used as scapegoats.

Jutice does not exist in War. Justice is not obtained by having a conqueror punished. Court is not designed to convict a winner. Internation Criminal is not for social justice. It is made by supper power, winner always establishes to prosecute the one who lost. Compare US and VN.

There is no such thing as justice anywhere in civilization today, 2:26.

I like the good old days better where we were allowed to duel against our opponent one on one for justice. At least our chance is nearly 50-50.

Up to this date, justice really got worse, but we don't see it because it is painted over with spins, rhetorics, ... and Euphemism. Now we have rich people to use their top notch lawyers as their shield and nothing we poor can do anything to even touch them. Thus, the odd is no longer 50-50, but nearly 0-100. How someone can see this as justice is beyond my comprehension.

ECCC is established by Gov't, so it won't be able to prosecute its leader. Untouchable! Don't dream. Put a handful on try is enough.

Haha....OK

Well, if you prosecute the government that represented the people, then you are prosecuting the people. This will be a bit like screwing the people twice, if you know what I mean.

Justice cannot be found if we still live in the injustice society. What we are doing now just only the winers punish the losers. the bad guys still live free as long as they are the winers.
