The royal palace rejected rumors published by a newspaper recently, claiming that the former monarch, King Norodom Sihanouk, plans to form a political party. The royal palace’s statement confirmed that King-Father has no intention of forming a political party as the rumors claimed. On his end, Prince Sisowath Thomico also rejected the accusation made by one Funcinpec party member who said that the prince was the one spreading the rumors. The prince said that it is a serious mistake for any individual who connected him to these rumors, because he knew that King-Father said on many occasions that he will not be involved in politics anymore, therefore, why would someone still spread this kind of rumors? Khieu Kanharith, government spokesman, said that King-Father cannot be involved in politics unless he abandons his immunity and walks out of the royal palace which is considered a neutral institution. Khieu Kanharith said that the rumors were spread by someone who wants to reap political gain.
