Phnom Penh get ready to receive visitors during Boat Race Festival

The Phnom Penh authority is currently setting order in the city in order to receive visitors coming for the Boat Race Festival which will take place between 23-25 November 2007. The city authority hopes that this year’s festival will see more visitors from the various provinces, and that their number will reach up to 3 million. The city hall issued a directive on 16 November ordering trucks transporting sands and rocks not to enter the city between 23 and 25 November. Some main arteries in the capital, such as the Preah Sisowath street and streets located north to the Norodom Avenue will be closed to cars and motorcycles, and street sellers are ordered not to sell their wares in a number of locations along the riverside. Nhem Saran, the director of the city public works department indicated that during the 3-day festival, the city plans to provide 100 portable toilets, and the Sin Try garbage company will add 360 more workers and 22 garbage collection trucks.
