Phnom Penh music festival highlights exotic sounds

November 01, 2007

Organizers of Phnom Penh's fourth International Music Festival have selected "Exoticism Cross-Cultural" as the theme of this year's event, local media reported Thursday.

Asian artists dedicated to Western classical music and Western artists who have embraced Asian sounds will be playing works of classical as well as contemporary composers, the Cambodia Daily newspaper said.

"This is, in the best way, cross-culturalism," program director Gerhard Anton Isselhardt was quoted as saying.

The festival, which runs from Nov. 1 to 11, will include Asian artists from Cambodia and Japan, and Western artists from Germany and New Zealand, the newspaper said.

The first concert on Friday night will be at the Chaktomuk Conference Hall, it added.
