ADB, Korea, Australia provide 165.5 mln usd for Vietnam, Cambodia [cross-border] road project [-The bulk of it goes to VN though]

12.05.07

MUMBAI (Thomson Financial) - The Asian Development Bank (ADB), Korea and Australia are providing 165.5 mln usd in loans and grants to Cambodia and Vietnam to rehabilitate transport infrastructure to promote cross-border trade and support economic development in the Greater Mekong subregion.

The bank said it will provide a 7 mln usd loan to Cambodia and a 75 mln usd loan to Vietnam for the subregion's Southern Coastal Corridor Project.

It said Korea will extend a 50 mln usd loan to Vietnam through the Economic Development Co-operation Fund, which provides official development assistance to developing countries.

Australia will extend grants of 8 mln usd to Cambodia and 25.5 mln usd to Vietnam, the bank said.

Cambodia will put in 3.7 mln usd and Vietnam, 58.2 mln usd, the bank said.

The Greater Mekong subregion comprises countries sharing the Mekong River. They include Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.

The ADB said co-operation in the transport sector has been given high priority in the subregion because poor transport infrastructure is a major constraint to economic growth, trade and other forms of cooperation.

We have to understand that the strategic plan of VN to upgrade their international politics in 1986, especially with Cambodia is successful.

International donors will see that the project co-proposed by VN-Cambodia is sound.

Japan aided huge budget to develop Triangle Area, and now ADB, Korea and Australia aids money to build this borderline area. Cambodian government has no had transparency for these development project at all.

Those donors have recognized Cambodian government, but they don't care of internal managements such as good governance, anti-corruption, illegal immigration management, dictatorship minimizing, and tricky VN-Cambodia relations.

Only Cambodian people can perceive that the former installed CPP leaders have already put their effort to free from their former boss or not? Or they just try to use the updated strategic plan to prolong another 100 years relationship through this VN-Cambodia relation propaganda?

That's ok. We don't need more loans. Only make the damn officials rich, not the people. The future children will pay them back later.

On behalf of Khmer people and our best pals (Yuons), Thank you ADB, Korea, and Australia for your assistances in helping us with Cambo-Viet interstate infrastructures. I would estimated 165.5 milion USD will get us nearly 1,000km worth of good 2 lanes DBST highway.

May God blesses all of you for your generosity to both of us.
