Prime minister Hun Sen asked for the understanding from Phnom Penh city dwellers for the construction site to build flood prevention measures along the riverfront from Phsar Chas all the way to Wat Unalom pagoda, a tourist zone. During a speech given at the groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, Hun Sen said that Phnom Penh city dwellers and tourists usually come to visit this area, however, it is now fenced off and it no longer looks good. Hun Sen asked for the public’s understanding for the setup of this construction site which will last almost three years long before completion. Hun Sen said that this construction was initiated to prevent rainfall flooding at the end of the construction. It is expected that after this construction, Phnom Penh city will no longer be flooded.

That would sound like a good plan unless no corruption exists in the way the construction project is planned, implemented and monitored. Khmer leaders, plz always think about Khmer people and country first, so think about the quality of the fence/dam when you build it.
