PHNOM PENH, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia is very concerned about food supply for local people after Vietnamese and Thai merchants bought too much rice products from the kingdom, Cambodian Minister of Economy and Finance Keat Chhon said Thursday.
Recently, merchants from Vietnam and Thailand flocked into Cambodia to buy rice products at high price, especially in the provinces along the border, Keat Chhon told reporters at the National Assembly.
"When we sold rice products wholly, we remain nothing to eat," he said.
Cambodian government will take some measures to resolve the problem, he added.
"Meanwhile, we are very happy that our people have a good harvest this year and sell their products at high price. We could not ban local people from selling rice products to merchants from neighboring countries because it's their rights," Keat Chhon said,
The Cambodian government has requested Thai and Vietnamese authorities to provide information on rice products imported from Cambodia, he said, adding that it is difficult for Cambodia to obtain the real data because some rice products are smuggled to neighboring countries.
According to a report from the agriculture ministry, Cambodia is expected to export about two million tons of rice products to foreign market this year.

What?! We don't know how much rich we sell to Thaialnd and Vietnam, and request them to send us the rice export data for our information! That's not how a country's responsible leaders are supposed to work. That's ironic!
We are living in oversea and we buy the rice from Vietnam or Thailand. But the original rice come from Cambodia. Why Cambodian minister sell first to Vietnem or Thailand? Can we sell the rice directly to oversea countrie?
Both of those are PESTs from Hanoi. They serve Vietnam, not Cambodia.
