Five leading human rights groups appealed to Prime Minister Hun Sen Tuesday to give his support to human rights commitments, including meeting with UN rights representatives.
The appeal follows a trip by the UN special human rights envoy Yash Ghai, whom the government shunned in December and Hun Sen said should be fired.
But Human Rights Watch, the Asian Human Rights Commission, the Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development, the International Federation for Human Rights and the World Organization against Torture said Tuesday it was time for the government to end its antagonism against the envoy and look to solutions for Cambodia's rights abuses.
"Professor Ghai has drawn attention to critical concerns shared by the wider international human rights community," said Basil Fernando, executive director of the Hong Kong-based Asian Human Rights Commission, in a statement. "There's no denying the facts. Expropriation of the land of Cambodia's poor is reaching a disastrous level, the courts are politicized and corrupt, and impunity for human rights violators remains the norm."
Government spokesman Khieu Kanharith said Ghai had "looked down" on Hun Sen's senior human rights advisor, Om Yentieng, by not meeting him.
Ghai had insulted his host country by "eating its rice and then smashing the pot on the ground," Khieu Kanharith said.

It's sad how our khmer officials made insulting comments to the UN guy. It just come to show how uneducated these folks are. They all follow Hun Sen, not dare to meet the guy. What does that show the world about our leaders?
AH CHHROUK!
We should smashed ah chrrouk HunSen and his international ministries affairs; piglets know nothings.
I wonder what it would be like if one guy actually meet the UN official. He's probably be famous. But all are so dumb to follow Hun Sen or afraid of him. Probably go down in history book, but instead none of them dare.
don't be surprise.....this is the standard you get from the condom head khieu kanharith.
Ah Khieu Phnek Kanharith is Ah Thmil has no religion to worship, so he opened his stinky mouth to emit the disgusting odors to outside world and sooner he will pay his hefty price for insulting the United Nation official who is highly respected by people all over the world.
If Khmer government does not abide by UN's requests, USA should end its 355,000 textile jobs in Cambodia NOW. Cambodians in US please write letters to your congresses and senators to explain them how human right has been abused in Cambodia since 1997. It is time..
I am not surprised by Hun Sen and his cronies conduct. After all our prime minister's level of education was just 2nd year high school and his crony spokeman is probably lower than that. Judging from his and his lieutenants speech it don't even look like they even attend high school.
Is he(kieu Kanhjarith) ok? What is there for Yash Ghai to eat in Cambodia?
I love my country very much, but what can we do? noting much we can do. All the minister are all uneducated what came out of there mouth is like talking to children. I not saying that i am educated. i have never seen minister talk in such way, Do remember what Hor Num Hong say ( if finland want to take criminal like Heng Pov to stay in there country we can send more criminal to finland if finland want) and what the hack is this.I have never heard of minister talk in this way before. cambodia minister are all uneducated none of them finish Uni. So this is how they talk.
Not only lack of education, none of them believe in God. Why would tep vong went and assaulted a man?
There are no moral in Cambodia.
well....most khmer ministers now have PhD degree, but those degrees come from degree mill institution like Chamroeun university...that bastard Chamrouen is also an advisor to hun sen govt. he just got ungrad degree from Norton university in 2003, and now he is addressed as Dr.!!! Amazing Cambodia! anything possible! What a mill degree! SOB!
This Rascal Chamroeun runs the so called "University" without campus and gives PhD Degree to CPP civil servants.
He is really a degusting dog!
It's not surprising to hear the CPP and Hun Sen's reaction over Ghai's remarks.
It's like the reaction of the "Ox having a wound at the back and shaking its tail when a black bird is flying over".
This kind of reaction also shows the stupidness of Hun Sen's government.
It's funny to hear Ah Khiev Kan & Rith calling Mr. Yash Ghai Ah Pek as if he is Chinese. This Khiev talks like gangsters, please don't go near this animal because his fucking mouth is really stink.
Norton university. i think is a usless university .Ooo by the way Chamrouen got what degree? is it clean the floor degree?haha.
The truth hurts, Ah Kanharith. Dr. Yash Ghai reported the truth. He speaks for our innocent who are under-represented. If you say Dr. Ghai "Si bay bok chnang". What did you give him to eat? You are so scared of your boss ah Sen Kvak. You did not come to see him even though he was in your backyard. By the way, Ah Kanharith you are the one that "si bay bok Chnang". The internationa community donates millions of dollars to Cambodia. But you keeplying to them that you will eliminate the corruption. The corrupion law has never been existed. Shame on you.

It must have been an arduous and daunting job for the folks over the Ministry of Information department in downplaying public relations. During difficult times, having the right person to act as a lightning rod is not a bad idea, yet the job is steal daunting. If you don't do your job right, the death will be on your side. Moreover, if your days are numbered -- then pick your preferential designed casket.
Thank God that AH KANHARITH has a fucken job because without this fucken job and AH KANHARITH would have anything to say anyway!
I just wish that dirt poor Cambodian population have a fucken job so that their mind can think and see the possibility!
What happen to these HunSen cronies? Was his childhood development corrupted by birth? Why are they carry on the trait of corruption?
"John Bowlby devoted extensive research to the concept of attachment, describing it as a "lasting psychological connectedness between human beings" (Bowlby, 1969, p. 194). Bowlby shared the psychoanalytic view that early experiences in childhood have an important influence on development and behavior later in life. Our early attachment styles are established in childhood through the infant/caregiver relationship.
In addition to this, Bowlby believed that attachment had an evolutionary component; it aids in survival.

All appeals goes unheard, especially with this gov't. Like the old saying,`Just like pouring water on a duck`s head.`
Political pressure in the west would probably move some heads. After all, it involved some of our taxes.
