Opposition leader Sam Rainsy and other lawmakers from his party said they joined hands in a "human chain" to stop a company from erecting a fence around a group of impoverished Phnom Penh residents Monday.

A fence around the Dei Krahorm area of Tonle Bassac commune would imprison the residents, who are living on land the 7NG company plans to develop, the lawmakers said.

"We held hands [and] put our hands on each other's shoulders" to block construction, Sam Rainsy said. "We made a fence to protect the people."

7NG was attempting to erect a fence that included sheets of tin around the area, but the fence was not intended to harm the people, a company representative said.

Sam Rainsy Party lawmaker Ho Van called the fence "very dangerous" and compared it to a "prison."

"So there is no right at all, that they build a fence to surround the people," he said.

Residents earlier burned tires to protest the fence's construction.

7NG representative Srei Sothea said the lawmakers did not understand the fence, which was not meant to keep the people from going out.

Pum Sok Eng, a resident of the area, said many people had signed an agreement to leave but some had reneged.

These are a bunch of fools. There are laws and process as the representatives of the Cambodians must do. Your showing this barrier does not mean you can stop the process.
City has governor. Congress has senators and representatives. What are you doing?

There shall laws to protect our peoples. That is why are elected to generate laws to protect them. To stand in front of the line does not means any thing but campaign to get voters.

Get off the street and go to do what you were elect to do

This is a real action that all law makers regardless of their political affiliation should do to protect the people's interest and their constituents. The best job for law makers is not to go around and give people gifts in exchange for vote but to help solving problem for a long term benefit. If all MPs are courage to perform their actual duties, Cambodian people will be better off in a short period of time.

There are two common things to say:

- Hun Sen government has always protected the rich. Their laws are effective only for the rich, but the poors are desperately violated by CPP.

- Sam Rainsy leadership is to stand with the poors, and protect the poors.

Cambodian peoples 98% are considered poor and weak.

Hun Sen leadership is more brutal than Khmer Rouge and Burma.

But Hun Sen always brag himself and his government as is better than Khmer Rouge.

In reality: Khmer Rouge is considered as a hell on earth, but Hun Sen regime is considered as ANIMAL on earth.

CPP's members have always liked to compare the different between HELL KINGDOM and ANIMAL KINGDOM.

For you, KI-ests, which one is better than between these two kingdoms?

Do you prefer to escape from these two kingdoms and live in HUMAN kingdom or not?
