Petitioners say “Not the Cambodian deputy prime minister!”
The 2008 Cambodian New Year Parade isn’t until some time in April–so far off that folks in the Mayor’s office say they haven’t even set a date. But already tensions are mounting over plans by Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister Sok An to attend the parade.
According to Greg Mellen in this morning’s Press-Telegram, some people in Long Beach’s Cambodian community oppose the current Cambodian government for its human rights violations, corruption and other “misdeeds.”
They’ve launched a petition to protest Sok An’s appearance–copies of which will be printed in the Jan. 31 edition of the Angkor Borei News, its editor Anthony Ly told Mellen.
Ly also said the petition has more than 20 signatures to date–and he called Sok An “the most corrupt man in [Prime Minister] Hun Sen’s government.”
So now the question becomes: who invited him?
Former councilman Evan Anderson Braude was part of a Long Beach delegation which visited Phnom Penh, the country’s capital, earlier this month–and extended what Braude characterized to Mellen as “a general invitation to anyone who wanted to attend.”
“There was no specific invitation to a specific person,” Braude is quoted as saying. But Sok An accepted.
And if the Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister decides he wants to actually be in the parade, Mellen reports that he’ll be “provided with a car to ride in, and banners identifying him.”
No matter where you stand on the issue, it should make the three months leading up to the parade exceedingly interesting.

This is great. Now we have a moving target in site. As they say in F.A "fire for effect".
Bhutto Assassinated is the morning headline on december 27,2007. ( what a tragedy for democracy)
Sok An Assassinated is the morning headline on April 13, 2008. (another child molester, evil, corrupted, slime dead)
We should send a footage of Prime Minister Hun Sen's cursing and degrading Kenyan government and its country to see what their reaction to Hun Sen's comment.
I will try to go to Kenyan website and post this footage on their government website, and wait and see if his comment spark some fire from their people and government.
I am so happy to hear that ah chrouk sok An is coming to attend the parade. Don't worry folk we have a job to do then. Let's be ready. Let him come and have some fun or even more...Welcome AH Chrouk kumruk pram cheat sok An!
Yeah, let him come in. We never have such a chance. Let's welcome the criminal at home. We must take a chance to revenge for our country! Let's the crook get out of the hole please, then we can shot and grill him.
Goerge W Bush has used many strategies and spent US $billions in order to smoke Binladen out of the hole, so why should we oppose the crook who is willing to get out of it without spending a cent? Huhhhhh, you are very welcome Ah Tohear SOk An!
He need to come. And lets all dress up in white to represent the dead in protest of his involvement in the killings of your brother, mother, sister father, etc..
Or maybe there should be a "killing field" float. right behind Sok An car.
Believe me or not!!!
All these people dare not touch Sok An.
See if I am right or wrong.
They say but never do it.
Come to the time everybody run away.
Hahaha...
I am at a lost after reading this article about Cambodian leaders in Long Beach who are willing to recognize the CPP leadership to come to Long Beach!
This is not the issue of who hate what! This is not the issue about Khmer hate Khmer! This is the issue of morality! Cambodian people have the right to hold any Cambodian leader to high standard of morality!
Most Cambodian people knew the Cambodian People Party (CPP) which came to power since 1979 installed by the Vietcong government as a puppet government! For thirty years the CPP run Cambodia to the ground and promoting the illness and the misery in Cambodian society and even today with all the corruption, the human right abused, the economic enslavement, and the oppression are beyond words to describe!
By giving the recognition to the deputy Prime Minister Sok An which is to give more ground to immorality!
For me after seeing Cambodian monks get kicked and beaten with electric batons like a dog for peaceful protest and I am done with Sok An leadership!
The City of Long Beach has no place for immoral person such as Sok An and the rest of his clan and he can stay where he belongs!
AH HOC LUNDY came to Long Beach under protection of Uncle SAM!
Tell me who want to mess with Uncle SAM! Ahahhahahhaha
Sok An can come to Long Beach under the same protection of Uncle SAM!
Please just remember that nobody can protect Cambodian people in Cambodia because Cambodian people lives have no value than animal life!
When you really think about it! The animals in United States have more right than Cambodian people such as dog and cat! I am sure if the animal Sok An or Hoc Lundy decided to visit United States anytime and Uncle SAM won't hesitate to provide them with protection!
These groups of people knew nothing but killing and killing and revenge.
The country is a slum and people are also slum. Poor khmer shit.
Dont act foolish let the law punish those who violate them. Sok An can be bad but performing violence action against him would put you as terriorist. Be smart just by not supporting him let him march on an empty parade with no one there to see and respect him. That will show him how much we appreciate his attendance here.
Save some rotten eggs to welcome Sok An. You won't get into trouble with the law if you throw eggs at his parade vehicle. So all Cambodians who love freedom please bring some eggs to the parade.
Mr. San, you should be ashamed of yourself. Further, you need to resign or remove yourself from your current position to placate the situation in which you have precipitaed. Also, you're not only embarrass yourself and your spouse, but the rest of Khmer community.
Khmer forever! Yuon out of Cambodia!
Dear Long Beach Compatriots!
You already know who are these people: Hun Sen, Hok Lundy, Kun Kim, Sok An, Cham Prasidh Sok Kong Yeay Phu of Pheapimex, Yeay Phan of Phanemex...and the Thieft Star Phklay Chor...They al belong to the Cambodia Maffia Band!
Only the Maffia invite the Maffia!
