The Phnom Penh city hall issued a communiqué indicating that there is a ban for the use of firecrackers and fireworks during the Chinese-Vietnamese New Year which will be celebrated at the beginning of February of 2008. The ban was issued in a directive signed by Kep Chuktema, the city governor, dated 19 December 2007. The directive also bans gambling during the 3-day celebration. The directive stated that the city will order all levels of police force to take strict measures to oppose those who contravene the directive and causing unrest and affecting the security and public safety. The culprits will be sentenced according to the law. The Chinese-Vietnamese New Year celebration will take place between 07-09 February 2008.

It simply does not make any sense, particularly you can use our weapons to shoot in the air, but not fireworks.
