Original report from Phnom Penh
14 December 2007
The U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh Thursday night hosted a party for more than 300 children from the Cambodian Children's Fund for a special hip hop music concert featuring The Dana Leong Band from New York City.
Beside the concert the children also enjoyed food, received gifts from Santa Claus and enjoyed the Embassy's spectacular holiday lights show.
Mrs. Sok Chan Neourn is a staff member of the Cambodian Children's Fund told VOA she was "so excited and happy to bring all these kids from poor neighborhood to enjoy the party organized by the US embassy and hip hop music performed by the American band."
One little girl told VOA that this is her first time at the US embassy. "I get to watch different nice music; there are DJs and many delicious food, and many different fun activities such as rides and blowing bubbles."
U.S. ambassador to Cambodia, Joseph A. Mussomeli, who initiates the idea and helps organize the event, said this is a part of his efforts to strengthen the cultural ties between the United States and Cambodia.
"We do many. Personally we do some. My wife and I will sometimes have events for children with HIV/AIDS. Sometimes we would go to orphanages to just hand out gifts."
The festivities started at 5pm and ended at 8pm. Everyone went home with a big smile on their face.

Is the French do too?
That call joyce to the world."ANANIKUM AMERICA RULES!"
Thanks to Mr. Ambassador for giving the poor children of Cambodia a joy of Xmas with gifts. They'll remember such important moment in their lives. You have done a lot of things to Cambodia and her people whereas the government do not care about their own citizen. We're proud to be under American colony than the Vietnamese or French colony.

Thank USA for giving toy to our Children. We are afraid the communist regime, they destroyed Khmer Since 13century(CHEAV TA KWAN).
With all due respect, Mr. Ambessador and the rest of your bureaucrats, are these UNDERPRIVILEGED 300 CHILDREN or these 300 children are simply from your own backyard -- your associates' families and friends --that you know who will be participating in the Christmas celebration?
You're no difference than your counterpart PM Hun Sen. Both of you are hypocrites.
The inevitability of the perils of Hunism.
Did you ever see any Communist party or their member do staff like that 11:44pm & 7:35pm?
If you can say anything nice at this time. Please just shut you mouth! Our kids love American and that is all that it matters! You can go to hell!
You cannot handle the unvarnished truth.
Wake up and smell the reality, moron.
The upcoming Christmas celebration for the not-underprivileged 300children at the US Embassy compound is nothing but a fanfare and publicity stun.
My suggestion: throw a real party for the unfortunate ones (not the children you already knew).
I don't like to debate with a bunch of hypocrites and bureaucratics.
Go ahead and ostentatiously put on the show to show your dedication and unblemished record of failure.
Again, wake up and smell the reality.
I dislike dealing with a bunch of hypocrites and bureaucRATS who will kowtow the foreigners or your own species'ass to get ahead in life.
Only the BIG losers cannot face the reality, and cannot handle the truth, but very good at ostentatiously put up a good show to show that you care.
Again, the hypocrites do not work well with me, because they are afraid facing the reality and truth.
What truth?!!! The truth here is that The American gives away love and material during Christmas. That is the truth! The fact is you cann't do the same and you don't have anything to give. That is shame shame and shame on you!!!!
Irrespecive of what you do, you're still a hypocrite. I have enormous hatred for the indian giver.
