A fire ravaged electricity Plant No. 5 and No. 6 in Tuol Sanker commune, located in front of the Tuol Sangker market, Russei Keo district, Phnom Penh city, in the afternoon of 13 January 2008, and causing the destruction of 4 private electricity generators. However, the fire did cause any damage to the plant building, or the residents’ homes located nearby because of the rapid intervention by the firefighters. The fire caused a stir in almost half of Phnom Penh city because the burning of the diesel fuel generated a thick black smoke into the sky. The fire was caused by the burning of grass by a worker, and the fire spread on to the fuel and the generator, and causing this destruction. 12 fire engines came in to put the fire out.
