Cambodia threatens to expel activists who plan a ceremony at a Khmer Rouge prison to increase pressure on China over the crisis in Darfur.
Cambodian Information Minister Khieu Kanharith condemned the event, led by American actress Mia Farrow, as 'insulting' to victims of the communist regime which devastated Cambodia during the late 1970s.
"They want to use Tuol Sleng Prison to attack China, not to commemorate the souls of Cambodian people," said Khieu Kanharith, threatening to expel those who insist on holding the ceremony.
The group of activists, Dream for Darfur, has started a torch relay through nations that have suffered genocide to draw attention to China's close ties with Sudan, while Beijing is to host the Olympic Games in August.
Farrow's group had planned to hold a ceremony Sunday outside Tuol Sleng, formerly a torture center turned into a genocide museum.
The government on Wednesday said it would not allow the event, accusing the group of attempts to politicize the Olympic Games. But organizers said on Friday that they would still rally at the prison despite the ban.
China--which has been under pressure to use its economic ties with Sudan to stop the violence in Darfur-- was also a close ally of the communist Khmer Rouge, which accounted for up to two million Cambodians' deaths between 1975-79.
China absorbs almost two thirds of Sudan's oil output and is the most influential ally of the African country where violence has claimed thousands of lives since it erupted in volatile Darfur region in 2003.

I believe that people should be matured and be more responsible before writing anything which hurt other people feelings. If you read all Sihanouk'articles in his website and read all other articles in various documents, you would find that China and Chinese leaders from Mao Ste Tung to Chou En Lay have repeatly told Sihanouk, Pol Pot and all Communist leaders not to follow China for making Cambodia into a communist country. They have repeatly warned all Cambodian leaders not to make Cambodian to suffer. The killings of Cambodian between 1975-1979 were entirely done by all revenges between Cambodian leaders and their people and their dreams to use all Cambodians as their slaves to keep their family to live in luxery and powerfull like North Korea leaders.
THe actrice from USA wanting to use Tuol Sleng for the Olympic light is also not to insult China either. Her aim is to stop genocide. The genocide of Dafur was done by all military leaders of both side Government and rebels group to control human lives. We cannot also blame china entirely for this genocide either. We have to blame the killers and the leaders who made those decisions to kill people. In the whole world, no foreign government can make a good precise decision. Eg, Before the invasion of USA into Iraq, we all knew that Bush has good intention to remove Saddam from Iraq and we thought that it would be good for Iraq. But after Saddam removal, there are so many problems arise between different factions. Can we blame this problem to USA? THe same problem of Cambodia in 1991, when the UN wanted to help Cambodia for peace and democracy, but after electing Rannarith as Prime Minister, what this animal has done to Cambodia? corruptions at all level. Who cares? Cambodian gov't should not care about this demonstration at Toul Sleng led my Mia. Let them protest peacefully. This way, Cambodia can show the world that ' hey, Cambodia is a free society.' I think police should be there, just to make sure it's not out of control; but if it's peaceful, gov't should allow it.
This might just be a test for the gov't by some rights group to see if Cambodia is truly a democratic, freedom of speech society. That's all.

As a victim of the Cambodian genocide, I support Mia's torching ceremony. The Cambodian government do not speak for the victims. Why don't you asshole take this to the Cambodian senate and take a vote on it...The will of the people is to stop all genocide, and it doesn't matter where it happens. Hun Sen, you have too much power. You need to stop making poor decision for the Khmer people and you are also Khmer. Unless you're are a vietcong running our country...if so, you need to watch out...You can't hide. People have enough of your communist minded led by your asshole Vietnamese government & The Chinese tail....
The idea not letting Mia Farrow conducts a ceremony at Toul Sleng prison is a political matter because vietnam is always behind and keep their eyes on hun sen's activities not to remind the killing field that why the KR trial is up to almost 30 years after the communist Pol Pot was replaced by hun sen.
We have to blame Sihanouk and Hun Sen for all delays to Khmer Rouge trial. Both China and Vietnam have nothing to do with Khmer Rouge Trial. In reality, they wanted this trial to speed up to reveal all dirties tricks of Khmer Leaders toward their own people. They used to call Khmer race as Barbaric because they have observed how khmer leaders have treated their own people through the history with barbaric treatment. Some Cambodian scholars have not agreed with this name because they haven't learnt much their own history to see how barbaric their leaders have killed their own people in each war. We now have learnt about Sihanouk, Pol Pot, Tamok. During Lon Nol regime, Lon Non was very barbaric as well. Now in Hun Sen regime, this later has allowed all his families and his children to steal people lands without any mercy. It is about time Khmer must wake up and stand up to their leaders and say enough is enough !!!!!

vietnam never ever trust the strangers or they pretend to trust,they trust their own,but Mr.hun and Mr khieu try to speak for vietnam even they knew that China was not main impact in the killing field but the secret vietcongs groups in pol pot's regime and now still hiding in fake gov.run by hun sen is the main responsible to be condemned,not China like Mr.k barking.
