For a whole day, on Saturday 29 December, in Lowell, Massachusetts, northeastern USA, about 100 Cambodians traveled to listen to reports about problems faced by Cambodia. The event was organized by the committee supporting the Khmer Mchas Srok (Khmer Owners of the Land) movement at the Doubletree Hotel conference room.

The reports about Cambodia were given by Dr. Chak Sakhon, President of the Khmer Mchas Srok movement. The event started with a blessing given by Buddhist monks, followed by a remebrance of National Heroes who dedicated their lives to the Nation and Religion in the past and present. This is the second meeting organized by the movement.

Following a 2-day national congress held near Washington DC in October, Dr. Chak Sakhon gave an account of the latest events, by showing figures and reports gathered by herself and Mr. Sean Masavang, her colleague. The report was the results of a 10-year study conducted by the movement, following the 23 October 1991 Paris Peace Agreements on Cambodia, one salient point of this report shows that: “In this entire affair, it was merely an artificial peace, why is it that peace in Cambodia is only an artificial peace? Because we don’t have sovereignty, why don’t we have sovereignty? It’s because of a strange immigration issue, because of poverty in the Cambodian society, because there is no punishment for the criminals, you can kill people and you will not go to jail, because of the destruction of Buddhism and Cambodian culture, because of the dictatorship of the CPP currently.”

So Bun Thoeun, a Cambodian citizen, told RFA with emotion that after he heard and saw the painful graphical images of Cambodian people living in the countryside in some regions, that: “This is the first time that I see the true tragedy suffered by Cambodian people living in Cambodia, and they are being oppressed by Thailand and Vietnam. This all happen because Cambodians are not smart enough, and they allowed other nations to oppress them. All these made me become very emotional, this is the first time I cried, I cried because I have pity for our Cambodian people.”

Mrs. Ung Samon, a 70-year-old lady who recently returned back to her native village to visit her relatives, said that she personally witnessed the current living condition of the [Cambodian] people. Mrs. Ung Samon said: “In the countryside, a lot of them don’t have rice to eat. In Cambodia, there are a lot of Yuons living there, (that’s what I observed when) I visited last year. I thank the formation of the Khmer Mach Srok movement for helping Cambodians and our country from being encroached by the Yuons.”

Supporters of the movement indicated that in the past few days, the Khmer Mchas Srok movement accepted about 100 new supporters who are living in Massachusetts, and these supporters demand the full right to live as Cambodians, the owners of their lands in Cambodia.

It must start with Sihanouk. As long as Sihanouk supports the Viet and Hun Sen, no political party will ever succeed in saving Cambodia.

We see cause and effect of our problem, and now how can we solve it?

Get Sihanouk to back out of the not-so-secret deal he made with Hun Sen.

Get Sihanouk to denounce the Viet's vision of annexation of Cambodia.

Get Sihanouk back to be the father of the Nation by befriending with the West and the outside world, now that Vietnam has been re-united/unified.

Get Sihanouk back to be what he once was but with less or none of the Vietnamese and/or the Chinese.

After all, Sihanouk had been flipfopping all his life politically and after all, what is that humongous Embassy near Watt Phnom built for?

That's, in my honest opinion, how we can solve our beloved motherland's problem otherwise Khmer will never ever rid of the Viet's new and systematic yoke of colonialism.

No one political party will never ever be able to save Cambodia without Sihanouk whether it be united or otherwise!!!

too many foreigners passing off as Cambodian and deciding the political fate of Cambodia that why Cambodia is not independent. People like "Haing Sheng" from the KSaron blog that was show ealier about the "Big Picture"

Heng Seng, Feng Shei, Hang Sang, whatever, Chinese Vietnamese they are the new "machas" srok of Cambodia now. Only way to take independent back is to rid of these people who have "gratitude" without bound to Vietnam. How? restrict immigration and tough criminal laws. Make life in Cambodia hard for criminals, when criminals are ban from voting then we can vote Hun Sen out.

There is just one tiny problem with your suggestions Anon@1:27AM - Cambodia is now according to some approximation 80% Vietnam. How do you suggest we vote Hun Sen out?

I am sick and tired to see KMS used their memberships fund to travel and do a lecture around US and tell them that KMS spend 10 years to study and found out that Cambodia is no peace,no souvereignty, poverty, immigration issue, unpunished crime and CPP government is dictator Etc...You toll the people that KMS is not doing a politic and some of your promoters ask the people do not support political parties in Cambodia and save money for KMS and also RFA found So Bun Thoeun cried because it is the 1st time that he heard someone talk about real issues of Cambodia.Oh come mr So you are slipping for long.Let me go back to Paris Peace Agreement, this conference is sponsor and deseign and fund almost 100% by my US government.Paris is just a place for a meeting only. The ideas of this conference is to bring Peace and promote a democracy and created a 1st democratic election in Cambodia. The most important of this conference is to bring Sinanouk back to Cambodia that US owned him because Nixon government take him away and most of Cambodian people blame on US.After election UNTAC get out and leave Cambodia to Sihanouk that Cambodian call him a Peace maker and Father of the Nation. All the problems after this id belong to Cambodian people have to solve.Don't bore the conference members and don't ask them to clean your ass,you have to clean your own.Stop blame the foreigners, blame yourself, your leaders and Khmer people.KMS stop singing the same sinsisamouth song,Cambodian like Preap Sabath now.KMS need to create a Political Party like Bhutto and liberate your country by democratic process.Win or lose you sure have your srok.If you stay aways your srok, soon or later youn will take over your srok.Look like Angkor Wat Khmer build but youn own or (mchas). If KMS can't form a PP you better support any one of SRP or HRP by help them to do Fund raising or help campaign and better than go around to promote your own popularity or political credit.Do not come to US because we Cambodian in US are very busy on fund raising and campaign for SRP and HRP.Stay in French, may be your French gov can do something to help you to liberate Cambodia.French can do nothing to help Cambodia. Please do not confuse Khmer people with your KMS let them concentrated on election first and you can do it your campaign later. If Hun Sen still in power, nothing we can do for Cambodia. Now Hun Sen is Mchas Srok not you.

Thanks 1:38 for your question, I have already answer it in the post.
And what do you mean Cambodia is 80% now Vietnam? According to who? Cambodian poor and young are a huge voting force, they haven't been wake yet that is all.

recap here's what i wrote:
How? restrict immigration and tough criminal laws. Make life in Cambodia hard for criminals, when criminals are ban from voting then we can vote Hun Sen out.

There is hope left because there are opposition MPs left in parliament, they are trying to get immigration bills in, and corruption laws pass. It is only a matter of time before these things come to fruition.

It is not too late to control immigration. Immigration is a big problem everywhere, even in U.S, but U.S is a big country and it can afford it because they have tons of resources left.

Cambodia is not the same case, so it must work tougher and quicker on immigration issues.
