The ministry of water resources lifted its order banning sand dredging from river bottoms, however, the ministry said all companies allowed to continue this operation must re-apply for a new authorization, and they must follow the recent directive regarding safety and environmental impact for this operation. A directive dated 18 December, issued by the ministry of water resources and signed by Lim Kean Hor, the minister of water resources, stated that only companies with authorization are allowed to continue their operation. At the beginning of December, Prime minister Hun Sen issued an order banning sand dredging in all rivers because a large embankment collapse took place in Koh village, Niroth commune, Meanchey district. The lifting of the ban was criticized by Sam Rainsy Party officials who said that it was done in great haste. Eng Chhay Eang, SRP secretary-general, said that he is concerned about the government decision to lift this ban. He said that the government should conduct a proper study on environmental impact first, before re-authorizing the sand dredging, because he is very concerned about embankment collapses.

All the fucken dredging companies need to move their dredging equipments to the middle of the river or lake to conduct any dredging operation from now on otherwise more embankments will collapse!
Please don't make the money the easy way at the expense of the dirt poor Cambodian people! Now go do the right thing!
The Government must protect the river embankements Countrywide. The collapse has happened every year along the Mekong river in all provinces: PPenh , Kompong Cham Kratie.....
