Trabant Trek to raise money for Cambodian street children

A Trabant car produced by the former East Germany makes its way through Cambodia's main capital of Phnom Penh, Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008. Three Americans and a Briton, after traveling through 21 countries, have arrived in Cambodia by means of two of the unlikely vehicles. Throughout their six-month journey, their cars broke down some 320 times. But despite the odds, they reached Cambodia in their quest to raise money for street children in this impoverished Southeast Asian nation. (AP Photo/Heng Sinith)

Anthony Perez of the U.S. pushes his Russian Trabant Trek before Daniel Murdoch of Britain can start their 1987 car in front of the Independence Monument in Phnom Penh January 9, 2008. The duo, along with John Drury and John Lovejoy of the U.S., end their road trip in Cambodia, after having started last July from Germany. They have since travelled across 21 countries within six months in a bid to raise $300,000 for Cambodian street children as well as to increase awareness for child poverty worldwide. It is a miracle that these two cars can make it and considering the unsafe road condition and the primitive traffic rules where every car has the right of way!

I wouldn't risk my life to raise $300,000 driving across 21 countries and it can be a fucken nightmare! These guys have a heart of steel! By the way, Cambodia has the highest traffic fatality comparing to other countries!

Hi,
My name is Dan Murdoch, and i'm one of the Trekkers.
We've made it to the beach town of Sihanoukville, and ended our trip.
It has been an amazing experience, with plenty of highs and lows.
You can see the route we have taken, as well as a wealth of information about the cars, along with blogs, photos and videos on our website:
www.trabanttrek.org
You can also donate, all money raised goes straight to Mith Samlanh Friends and M'Lop Tapang, to help them continue their magnificent work.
