A Fraction of the Whole

February 2008
Op-Ed by Justin C. Sok

The news regarding the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Sok An to participate in the upcoming annual Cambodian New Year Cultural parade and the ribbon cutting for Cambodia Town has caused great concern in the Cambodian and Cambodian American communities across the United States, Cambodian people living abroad, as well as, the Cambodian people in Cambodia. For the past few weeks, the news has continued to spread like wild fire. This invitation issue can result in deep resentment in the Cambodian community if the so-called the Cambodian Community Congress delegates do not call off the invitation.

It is with great honor to learn that the Honorable Mr. Joseph Mussomeli, U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia, has made recommendations to have the “Cambodian-Americans engage the Cambodian government more, the delegation extended invitations to all government leaders to attend the New Year Parade”. The Cambodian public owes an enormous debt of gratitude to you for your dedication and continues support in helping push for democracy, respect for human rights, and to pass anti-corruption laws in Cambodia. The Cambodian and Cambodian American people have raised the inivitation issue not because we wanted to create any controversy nor we would like to cause any friction among our Cambodian people. It is mainly to express what we feel is fair and just for our Cambodian and Cambodian Americans in general.

The logical points for the argument, however, is that the “decision about the invitation had already made by the Cam-CC representatives without giving the Cambodian community an opportunity to express their opinions on this issue”. The Cambodian public would like to make a public request to those so-called claimed representatives of Cambodian community to be more sensitive, accountable, and transparent in the way they are handling issues regarding the annual Cambodian New Year Cultural parade and the Cambodia Town, Inc., especially, any issue that deals with the public should require that the people to have a say.

The fundamental rule of democracy, simply put, is the “rule of the majority”. It is clearly understood that there are certain decisions on the particular issues, which the Cam-CC and its representatives have executed without having sought for public opinion. But again, the issue of the invitation is of great concern for the Cambodian people. It is with our heartfelt concern that the so-called Cambodian Community Congress delegates finalized their decision without asking for public inputs. Thus, it is certainly a grave error. The judge cannot obtain justice without the skill of lawyers who present him with the facts; the parent cannot form a successful child without the love of the child; and the boss is powerless to achieve production without the respect and aid of his employees. Likewise, the annual Cambodian New Year Cultural parade and the Cambodia Town, Inc. would not be born without the “collective efforts” from the Cambodian public, local Hispanic community, the African American community, local businesses, and the community organizations.

I would also like to take this opportunity to share my political point of view, which I thought is worth noting for the Cambodian public to carefully examine this invitation issue. First, Long Beach has the largest Cambodian populations in the world outside Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The Cambodian people are the survivors of the “Killing Fields”. We were here not because we had chosen to but because of our so-called leaders, which had sworn to us to be the almighty, godlike, omnipotent had miserably failed to protect us. Like prison, where bad things happened, the whole country was shut out from the world and kept its secrets buried within. We were oppressed, tortured, starved to death, persecuted, executed, enslaved, forced to do hard labor, faced sadistic guards, and were cheated and lied to, and the list was endless and pathetic. They had left us at the bottom of a hill with a long climb to recover. They had crushed our souls and spirits. Psychologically, emotionally, and physically, we are still traumatized by the holocaust. We, the survivors are the living voices of the dead and ourselves. We are here to rebuild our lives, to educate ourselves, and to teach our children about our past mistakes. At the same time, we want our younger generations to learn the importance of their constitutional rights and to worship democratic principles. We don’t want any of those so-called claimed leaders represent the way the past leaders had led our parents’ lives to hell.

Second, any event we hold, such as our annual Cambodian New Year Cultural parade, for instance, is always reflection on us of who and what we are as people, nation, religion, and culture, etc. The Global Witness, as well as, the international community have vehemently uncovered the Phnom Penh government in their corruption, environment abuse, government squandering of money on their hobnobs, human rights violations, land grabbing, and the injustice suffered by the weak and oppressed. If the Cambodian and Cambodian-Americans living in Long Beach and across the United States, and abroad were to allow Deputy Prime Minister Sok An to participate in the parade, the world’s largest magnifying glass will be focused on us as being a hypocrite. We embrace the regime, in which the international community has relentlessly condemned the Phnom Penh government for committing gross human rights violations upon our innocent Cambodian citizens. More importantly, we would give false hope to our people in Cambodia and dishonor the millions innocent Cambodian people who were killed during the Black-Clad Order, Inc.

Third, the Cambodian general election is coming up in July 2008. If we were to allow Deputy Prime Minister Sok An to participate in the parade, will it show to the world that we are also supporting him and his political party (CPP)?

Thank you for reading and wishing you all have a wonderful day.

If the invitation of Sok An is still in the agenda, it is a shame to Cambodian in Long beach for inviting an animal like person to be their VIP guest and to be their role model leader. We will call you shame, shame ,shame, shame, your American children will be also be shamed of your shameless invitation.

Let Sok An appear in the New Years parade. Let him see how much the Cambodian-American community despises him and the corrupt government that he represents. I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of booing and name calling during the parade when he makes his appearance. It might make the parade look ugly but hey, at least he'll know face-to-face that his visit is marked with protest

Yeah well, that is a two way street. Those who let anyone any ticks and fleas from the Slum (Long Beach) into Cambodia should also be considered shame, shame, shame.

The local authories in Long Bitch will ensure that Mr. Sok An's personal safety will be guaranteed, should he still want come to the ghetto neighborhood.

If any harm is done to Mr. Sok An, I'm certain that the authories of Long Bitch will throw these retarded gorillas behind bars, or they can send them back to Cambodia -- we'll make that these retarded gorillas are taken care of in our Prey Sar Prison.

Well, that is up to Sok An to decide. I won't, but not because I am concern with the safety, but because I don't like to associate with losers.

AH SOK AN corrupted Communist bastard doesn't need to advertise himself when he wants to come to United States okay! He can come on his private time and private location so that Cambodian people don't need to hear or say anything about his visit to United States! I don't know why Cambodian people are still talking about AH SOK AN because it just a waste of time! Under AH SOK AN leadership and nothing is sacred in Cambodia and even Cambodian monks get beat up like little children! This mother fucker has no moral value whatsoever! I don't see how this mother fucker can command his present in front of Cambodian people without his moral authority! No more ground is given and no more doors are open to any morally corrupted Cambodian leaders!

By the way, it is not up to Cambodian people to allow AH SOK AN to come to United States but it is up to Uncle SAM whether he wants AH SOK AN or not! Uncle SAM allowed AH HOC LUNDY to come to Long Beach before and I don't see why Uncle SAM can't do the same with AH SOK AN!

Wrong, we do not beat any monk, but we do beat political monks who are making trouble in Cambodia, and we'll do it again too. There will not be any monk doing political work here. Go to the US if they want to do that.

Anonymous said...

To 4:2oPM

You mother fucker also beat up (force eviction) Cambodian people to steal land from them!

I am speechless!

You know what? This proves that Cambodia will suffer longer or forever because we have the person like you.

Anonymous said...

That is right, and we will kick all of the corrupted Sarimatakis/Lonolians outta here again too.

It appears as if this issue is important to a few people in Long Beach only. If they all cared the invitation would have been withdrawn already. A committee cannot work against the whole community. This issue is raised on this forum again and again without any progress in the matter. Conclusion: you are in the minority. Most Khmer just don't care because they are politically disinterested. And make no mistake, Khmer in Cambodia don't know about this issue and can only laugh at your concerns. This doesn't mean the opponents of the visit should just let it go. Everybody has a right to stand up for what they believe in.

Anonymous said...

True, that everyone has the right to stand for what they believe in, but to what extend? To defame our admirable DPM? To defame our country? to cause our people jobs and hardship?... Don't you people have any moral consideration at all?

Anonymous said...

My beloved Khmers!

When did our beloved Khmer leaders have morality? All I have suffocatingly knew is they only selfishly remained for the most part hostile to absolute power!

We're right behind you. We're everywhere -- we're always two steps ahead of you (when comes to intelligence-gathering information).

Need further proof? I dare you to check my IP address! Oh! Do you know how many libraries in the U.S.? And how many computer I can easily access? Of course, you get the idea.

We do not like to repeat oursleves;however, since you do not have an infallible memory, we'll tell you again: just think of us as "ubiquitous" agents. That is, we're everywhere where you retarded gorillas are present.

Oh! You and I once might have sat together in the classroom while we listened to the professors' lectures.

Anonymous said...

If Khmers in Long Beach let this go ahead, they must have rock in the heads.

Anonymous said...

Euw ... 5:20, you sat together with gorilla in classroom?

Anonymous said...

5:43 AM

Yes, I have! These retarded gorillas do not like to participate during quided discussion -- they were quiet as a tomb, that's why these retarded gorillas unable to articulate themselves, with the exception using unpleasant language against the ruling part. However, I must admit that these retarded gorillas are very good at mathematics (just about it).

If you want to win your opponents (foes), one needs to understand the enemy in order to build an impregnable firewall. Again, I'm two steps ahead of these retarded gorillas.

Anonymous said...

12:23 AM

We went to the same University, but we have higher scores on SAT and ACT (because we're more intelligent than you).

We also understand the FBI, or Federal Bureau of Investigation (DOJ, Department of Justice) business as you've alluded. If you have any knowledge about the G-man selection process, it's a tough process to get in. Of course, the retarded gorillas won't even pass the phase I (and if you did pass the phase I, I highly doubt that none of you will be selected to phase II in Cleveland, OH either).

You get the idea! We understand every move you make. so, don't try to bullshit about the FBI business.

Remember Prime Minister Hun Sen is our beloved Samdach. And we're here to protect him even with our lives.

That's okay, brother!

At least, we're being honest with each other.
