Hun Sen denied he received the former prime minister of Thailand. He indicated that the latter was in Beijing last week.

While Thaksin Shinawatra, the former prime minister of Thailand who was in exile since 2006, returned back home on Thursday 28 Februday, Hun Sen, the prime minister of Cambodia, denied the rumors saying that the two men would have met in Phnom Penh.

Thai news media claimed that Thaksin arrived in Cambodia on Friday 22 February, under an invitation from Hun Sen, and that the pair was playing golf together. Furthermore, for the last two weeks, Thai news media also announced that Thaksin could hold talks with Samak Sundaravej, the current Thai prime minister, in Cambodia.

“If Thaksin comes, I will welcome him as a friend. Since the coup d’état [which toppled him on 19 February 2006], we talk to each other over the phone, even when he was in New York or London,” Hun Sen said on Thursday, during a conference on the country economic previsions for 2008. “I admit that, last week, we communicate with each other over the phone. He was in Beijing,” he added.
