"Samak told Gen Anupong and Gen Boonsrang on Monday his government was still firm on seeing the area demarcated first" - More obstacle from Thailand to the listing of Preah Vihear as a World Heritage site?
Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej has asked the army to give him a full briefing on Preah Vihear, an issue expected to be raised during his visit to Cambodia next week.

Preah Vihear is not on the agenda for Thailand, but an army source said it would likely be raised by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen during his first meeting with Mr Samak.

The prime minister is scheduled to visit Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, on Monday and Tuesday after a two-day trip to Laos beginning on Friday.

Mr Samak made his request during a 40-minute meeting with army chief Gen Anupong Paojinda and supreme commander Gen Boonsrang Niempradit at Government House on Monday, the source said.

Cambodia has asked the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) to declare the Preah Vihear Khmer temple ruins, called Khao Phra Viharn in Thai, a World Heritage site. Thailand opposes the idea because the border in the area has not been settled.

Unesco's stance is that the two neighbours must first settle their differences.

Mr Samak told Gen Anupong and Gen Boonsrang on Monday his government was still firm on seeing the area demarcated first, the source said.

Preah Vihear straddles the border with Cambodia in Kantharalak district of Si Sa Ket.

The two countries earlier planned to hold talks on the issue this month when Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok Ann was due to visit Bangkok. However, the trip has been put off.

The Foreign Ministry has made it clear the issue could be settled and would not be allowed to damage Thailand's ties with Cambodia.

Gen Anupong went to Cambodia yesterday to prepare for the prime minister's visit. He is due back today.

After Cambodia, Mr Samak is due to visit Burma on March 6-7.

Mr Samak told the two generals that all cooperation schemes with neighbouring countries initiated by former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra would continue. He wanted the army and the Foreign Ministry to coordinate on those projects.

The stupid Thaicong army knows shit about Cambodian border! When AH Samak Sundaravej comes to Cambodia and the Cambodian government must show him the map of 1904 and 1908!

I can't understand why the khmer leaders would sit down with the Thais and talk about this issue again. Once you show your weakness in the issue the Thai will jump on you like a tonne of rock. Just tell them to back off. The Khmer leaders must show toughness, no negotiation on national sovereignty full stop. If you keep talking about this, it will never end, they will come up with more in the future, the Thais have no intention in respecting the Khmer territorial integrity and sovereignty, the Khmer leaders must realize this. They treat us like shit.

Well I agree with Thai PM for border demarcation first. While waiting for that we will built the access road from Cambodia side and build cable car up to the sacred temple as a part of tourist attraction. One the road are built and the border is demarcated, we will close the access from Thailand forever. And never go back to any negotiation with them again. Once the border is demarcated we do not need Thailand's approval to put our sacred temple to be world heritage. We can do it...
What do you think?

cambodia, please use the old map (1904, 1908) because this map was agreed upon by both kingdoms, and this old map should supercede any newer treaties, period. then, cambodia should build a state-of-the-art fence between thailand and cambodia so we will have a permanent access way from cambodia from now on. cambodia can not afford to keep preah vihear isolated for so long already due to civil war and the pol pot regime. now is the new era and new time for cambodia to beginning building fence at preah vihear area so permanent access from cambodia is up and running. whatever we do, we can not continue to isolate our ancient khmer heritage temple of preah vihear any longer. we should have khmer guards for preah vihear just like at the angkor archaeological park and other khmer heritage sites around the kingdom.

What is it to be demarcated in Cambodia? There is a clear define border demarcation in 1904 and 1908 in Cambodian map under the French protectorate! Even 1953 When Cambodia got her independence from France and there is a clear define Cambodian border between the Thaicong and the Vietcong borders!

Never in the history of the world under AH HUN SEN government which allowed the Thaicong and the Vietcong to define Cambodian border as the so called "white zone" or the "buffer zone" which force AH HUN SEN government to move Cambodian border markers backward deeper and deeper into Cambodia territory about 10 miles in some cases and give way for the Thaicong and the Vietcong government to claim more land from Cambodia by building their roads and use it as the new border demarcation into Cambodian territory! This is the arrogant behavior of the Thaicong and the Vietcong government that Cambodian leaders and Cambodian population must reject!

The Thaicong better fuck off!

don't forget that the old map supercedes all other treaties thereafter, meaning regardless of who made the new treaties with siem and youn later on, must use the old map to build fence once and for all! seal the access from thailand and only allow access from cambodia. that will shut them up permanently from our preah vihear temple. everyone who want to visit our temple must go around from the cambodian side of the border, no exception!!

The problem is the current government of Cambodia. What can we expect from an 8th grader who would become a leader of Cambodia. Look at another issue that is killing poor Khmers. That issue is the land eviction from the defenseless Khmer citizens who have no means to fight and defend their families. They are hurt emotionally and physically. The current Khmer gov' is a curse to our race. I am ashamed to be a Khmer citizen. The Khmer current government must be destroyed to make way for better Khmer leaders from new generation.

Yeah, that is exactly what your people said about Sihanouk in the 70's. I mean get rid of him to make way for better leaders like Sarimatak and LonNol, and we were all screwed bad time.

And now you are not expecting us to follow you stupid westerner educated advice again, are you?

Cambodian government must stand their ground and do your study.

Anonymous said...

True, but ultimate we'll have to settle it one way or another. We can't go on with dispute for another 200 years when our people who live in the are hoping for jobs and development for decades now.

This is really a people decision, and our government is government for the people.

I have an idea about thai government to leave our ancient temple alone, we have something they want,Inside the Kingdom of Cambodia,"Is the Offshore Oil" in the Block B.Which they sign contract to our Government in the past. we can discontinue their contract If they don't leave our ancient temple alone.

Well, you implied that you want us to unite our idea so that we'll be strong and live in peace together.

However, we are living in peace together already without united anything. So why should we do the extra work? Is there more to gain?
