Kem Sokha, HRP president, was selected by his party members to be the HRP PM candidate for the upcoming July 2008 election. At the same time, Keo Remy, who previously was the party vice-president, was moved to the position of chairman for the party regulation committee.
This decision was made during a party extraordinary congress held at the party central committee office located in Boeng Kak 2 commune, Tuol Kok district, on 27 February.
At a press conference held during that time, Kem Sokha rejected all criticisms made against him, claiming that he tried to avoid the (Beehive) radio program for the face-to-face meeting between the HRP, the SRP, and the NRP. He indicated that the HRP sent an official letter to the Beehive station to delay the meeting because the HRP was busy preparing for the party extraordinary congress. Kem Sokha explained that Mam Sonando had ill will and wanted to defame him personally, as well as the HRP.
Regarding uniting the political parties, he said that, based on the goals set by a democratic society, there should be many political parties to provide more choice to the public, and they can choose whichever party they like. He also reminded that the SRP and the NRP are not interested in national unity, and that, he and HRP officials, such as Pen Sovann, used to negotiate for this unity also, but it did not provide any results.
Kem Sokha added that the HRP still maintains the national unity stance, but that it must be based on the democratic goal, such as, imposing 2 terms limit for the party president, and the separate division of the 3 powers(?) within the party.
Son Soubert also indicated during the press conference, that he met with Sam Rainsy during a get-together meal to discuss about the union, however, Sam Rainsy told him that the SRP is comparable to a large tree with multiple branches. Because the atmosphere was not conducive to successful talk, Son Soubert said that the plan was to meet one more time at another neutral location. However, Son Soubert claimed that Sam Rainsy did not provide a reply.
The HRP extraordinary congress was attended by almost 1,000 party members from both inside and outside the country, as well as a number of local and international guests, such as representatives of the Russian and French embassy in Cambodia.

Congratulation to Kem Sokha for his nomination as PM candidate to the HRP!
He's well fitted and qualified to lead his party, and I believed he will do well in the race to govern Cambodia.
Good luck your Excellency!
Khem Sokha is just one of Hun Sen's persons who has been nominated to distract all democratic movements.
Hun Sen is using court to tie Khem Sokha in his fist.
No wonder!
Congratulation Kem Sokha and HRP.No matter what you have another democratic horse to race.Come on down you are in the price of right.Sacrava when you are in the ring puting fighting gloves on,some one will punch you in the moment.SR may sign a contract and received money with another promoter by do not join a coalition with another Party. This is the name of the game.
Kim Sokha would be a betrayer of Cambodia if he didn't wish to join with SRP because he is the man who seperate the voice of democrats in Cambodia. I dare bet to die if he can win the upcoming election. If you honestly loves your country why not compromise for your very long-suffered people.
I also congratulate Mr. Kem Sokha on being elected by the members to be the Presidency Candidate for the upcoming national election in July 2008. He deserves this position.
According to my observation, Mr. Kem Sokha has proved himself to be well-educated, outspoken and courageous. With his critical speech hammering on the right spots of the shortcoming of the govenment and the corruption, Mr. Kem Sokha has gained a faily large number of followers.
It is good if everything goes on as what the HRP has promised to bring about democracy to the country and to do everything for the people's sake.
But I and most of poeple in Cambodia still have a doubt in mind. Some wonder the creation of the HRP would devide the voices of democratic people from Sam Rainsy Party, which has been striving hard through countless obstacles so far.
One anonymous idea points out that this would be a tactic of the rulling party to separate the democrats from assembling at only Sam Rainsy Party, which would cause a big threat to the result of the election for the CPP.
Some people say they are very skeptical, hinting that both Kem Sokha and Keo Remy were former the CPP's high ranking officials. They added that CPP has not cared about how much money to spend for their victory in the coming election.
However, we cannot know now. we have to wait and see what happens next in the near future.
Thanks,
Raksmei
Dear friends and respected elders:
although Mr. Sanando doesn't represent any elite of politicians, his different views on unity matter has shorthanded Kem Sokha. People like Mr. Mam stands on everything that might impact you in a negative way. On top of that, Kem Sokha fell to the trap by going head to head to with him in the public.
Here is the buttom line: you fight among yourselves, and CPP will win another election by default b/c now the public sees that you lack of leadership. Kem Sokha needs to be smart by using his privilege not to answer the question asked. Remember you don't have to answer everything. DO NOT SHOW THE PUBLIC THAT YOU HAVE ISSUES AMONG OURSELVES.
I don't care if SRP or HRP will unite or not, but aim your attack at the real enemy here, the CPP and Youn. I feel so down when I see this kind of news.
Chan,
Attacking CPP?
Take it easy guy if you want to stay free and heathy to the election date!
Chan,
We think you have too much freedom of speech in your hands! Remember that freedom of speech can be a double-sword: I'm jingerly jittery about your assertion here!
We don't think you have the right credential to ponificate or confabulate others, because based on your assertion is rather ineffectually ignorant. In other words, you're in a position to advise anyone.
It's about time to drag this guy's ass and put him back behind bars.
Sad, sad , and more sad to see the Khmer Democrats fighting each others, while the CPP is enjoying a free ride again!!!
Vote buying, vote rigging, Yuon-imigrants voting, rural less-educated voters,Hun Sen's black-magic, Yuon's influence, Chinese's influence would be more than enough to steal another election.
We have witnessed the break-up of the Funcinpec into mini-Funcinpecs.
Now we are about to witness another break-up of the democrat camp (SRP & HRP). This will guarantee another win for the CPP, and domination of Yuon in Khmer soil. Hun Sen will have his wish come true: rule to his death.
This is already a prediction from Hanoi that the CPP will win the 2008 Election!!!Get real Mr. Kem Sokha and wake up Mr. Sam Rainsy!!!I cannot understand these politicians at all. Is it for the Nation or self-ego??? Just watch Hun Sen and the Yuon Hanoi's behaviour, they are in no hurry to send Viet agents to intimidate Khmer voters if they think they are about to be defeated.
I can be wrong...but I start to lose my hope on saving Khmer Nation again!!!Sad things that Khmer Never Learn and Khmer will continue to live as slaves the master Yuon (Viets) because of one's infighting and selfishness. The Vietnamization of Indochina is about to complete---highways are being between Cambodia,Lao,VN and many VN businesses are already in Cambodia and Lao.
Oh good, that means the future is bright for Cambodia.
The future of Cambodia will be more brighter only if those retarded gorillas zip their mouths, while the leaders of the Kingdom of Cambodia are marching Cambodia forward.
Agreed. These black scenes that they made had cost us billions over the years in business and causing many to suffer from lack of jobs. I really wish I can shoot those bastards myself, to be honest with you.
I'm with you all the way!
Don't let these fucking retarded gorillas RETARD or IMPEDE our economic growth in Cambodia. It is critically paramount that we need to sustain our robust economic growth. And, our Samdach is doing just that.
