SRP Lawmaker Sues CTN Journalist

A Sam Rainsy Party lawmaker filed suit Wednesday against a CTN television journalist for defamation.

Eng Chay Ieng, SRP general secretary, said he wanted the court to censure Soy Sopheap for an interview with a former SRP activist Tuesday, in which the activist alleged Eng Chay Ieng entered a Poipet casino.

The story was untrue and should be considered false defamation, Eng Chay Ieng said.

"Soy Sopheap did not do his job on behalf of journalism," he said.

Soy Sopheap said Wednesday he had not seen the suit but had not reported false or defamatory information.

"According to the press law, Eng Chay Ieng can send me a letter to rectify [the information]," he said.

Chan Sarith, a rights investigator for Adhoc, said Eng Chay Ieng should ask for a correction or clarification before filing a suit in the courts.

I agreed with Chan Sarith. We don't have to go all the way to the court. But in regard to Soy Sopheap, he needs to change his act as well. I used to respect him a lot for his courage to speak up against issues concerning country; but lately my respect for him has deminishing drastically due to his reportings are politically biased. I respect who are fair to others but you just can't have one view. We are all at steak here as a nation.

Well, he has to 1st ask the journalist to clarify on their report and if the journalist did not do so then he can take legal action but clearly the lawmaker just want the short cut to prove that I am a lawmaker.

May be he did go. Who know.

AH SOY SOPHEAP thinks that he is God and all the bullshit come from his mouth will be accepted as the truth!

Since AH SOY SOPHEAP is getting paid for his job and he needs to be more professional about what the hell he is talking about! If he can't do the fucken job as a professional journalist and maybe it is time to call a quit and let someone else with more capability to do the fucken job!

Agreed with you that every journalist shall obey and abide to their professionalism and codes of ethics, so does us [people who comment here] shall mind our language too to show that we have moral and seriously respected individual even though we love to hate that individual. A country where 95% are Buddhist, where it teaching is about tolerant. No need to show to the world that we are good in term of using such a language

Don't you think that when people created such language and it was meant to be used in some ways such as expressing one thought and feeling! Are you saying that I can't use such language in expressing my thought and feeling?

So tell me how do you go about expressing the anger, the love, the hate, the joy...do you use the same kind of language to express them all? Ahhahahhahhahhahahah

I am not saying that you can't using the language but rather restraint ourselves from using the languages as we possibly can.

Imagine that the entire population of 14 plus million now are using the language then what lead us to, where is the value of our social fabric [of course our social fabric does not lack of respect for young and elders], sense of respect.

Imagine a 6 years old boy, come to you and speak in such a language to you, what would be your reaction then.

My principle, if we don't want people to call us by name of use such a language toward us then it must start from us, isn't it?.

I disagree and it doesn't make any sense for you to use an example of 6 years old and beside she or he doesn’t even know what the hell is going on in the world!

I am not here to hide my feeling but to express my true feeling how thing should be!

I know my manner whether I am at the temple with religious figure, at home with family members, at school with students, at a meeting with coworkers, or anywhere and I will conduct my behavior in a civilized manner! But the issue that I am facing here is the fight to the death for the democratic principle against undemocratic Vietcong puppet government supported by AH SOY SOPHEAP!

Hoy Sopheap is a mouthpiece. He is far from a journalist. Everything that comes from his mouth is sarcasm and mostly anti-khmer oversea, and anti-khmer CPP oppositions people.

I watch him on CTN all the time and I cannot believe KI-MEDIA would call him a journalist! It is a disgrace to the professionalism of journalism.

My beloved Khmers!

I honestly used to respect Soy Sopheap, before he got fire by Samdech Dey DekCho Hun Sen. Somehow, he was evidently disappearing for awhile, untill he eventually comes back, he is entirely different man. Unashamedly, almost of Soy Sopheap's every word is blissfully thankful to his new master Hun Sen!

Dear Sopheap,
You should use TV to talk about entire country's issues but not personnal affairs or political parties.

I used to see Soy Sopheap. Before he works for CTN, he worked for the Ministry of Information. He received the job from the Ministry of Information through Seun San's Party. That time, he was outspokent and hated CPP for its corruption.
But now he 100% changes. After he got threatened by Hun Sen, he becomes a pupet and serves his new master cheerfully.
He looks like a dog to CPP and speaks harsh words, proud of being an obedient puppet.

SOY SOPHEAP, are you a bullshit journalist?.....

My beloved 4:57PM!
Are you honestly feeling ashamed as me? Our Khmeritude and mentality can simply change with Power, Money, Women... that is the reason why Khmer leaders are always the slave of foriegners?

Journalist has license to write and inform public about the truth in order to have a better society, based on facts collected.

without evidence or any degree of manipulation to distort the fact, he should be warned depends on the intensity of misinformation, and correction needs to be made to rectify with apology.

when misconduct persists, subsequently license has to be either suspended or throw away regarding to level of wrong intention.
