Thailand: Preah Vihear is a negotiable process -sic!-

Preah Vihear temple talks to be held soon

Friday February 15, 2008
Bangkok Post

Thailand and Cambodia will hold talks on the issue of the Preah Vihear temple ruins later this month during the visit of Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok An to Bangkok.

Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama said yesterday the issue remained ''negotiable'' and would be resolved through diplomatic channels when he met Mr Sok An in Bangkok. The date for the meeting has not been set.

''The Foreign Ministry looks after this issue closely and will maintain the sovereignty and borders of the nation. Preah Vihear is a negotiable process. I don't believe it will affect the relationship between Thailand and Cambodia,'' he said.

In 2001, Cambodia asked the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) to put the Khmer temple ruins, called Khao Phra Viharn in Thai, on the World Heritage List. But Thailand protested due to concern that the announcement could affect its rights over the unsettled border.

The World Heritage Committee said at its meeting in New Zealand last year that Cambodia should negotiate with Thailand on the issue because Thailand was a stakeholder as it shared the border with Cambodia.

let the foreign dept deal with it. i think it's a tricky request by the thai. but khmer like me is pretty much aware that preah vihear temple is not what they are dialoguing about; it is about the development of the common border areas surrounding cambodia's preah vihear temple, but not the temple itself. i said this again and again, it is not the temple itself, but the areas around it is what both sides are negotiating because, 1) preah vihear will be turning into a world heritage site under UNESCO which provides the fundings to preserve and maintain the temple itself. so the areas around the temple must be demined and developed so easy access both cambodia as well as thailand side is connected so all tourists can visit the cambodian temple easier than before. please, don't misunderstand the intention. i don't think thailand is in the position to negotiate about the temple, but they have the right to negotiable, in cooperation from cambodian gov't the right to develop the area to benefit both sides of the border because this is the border area and the cambodian temple in located there and it could be very misleading. so, please try to understand that they (thai) is not claiming the temple itself anymore like they used to before the 1962 court ruled, but now they (thai) just want cooperation from the cambodian people and gov't to develop the area only, the area!!! not the temple. the whole world knows the temple belongs to cambodia, but the areas needs negotiation for cooperation and bilateral benefit of the development. i hope people who read this understand the point, here. please don't be so alarm, thai won't try to claim preah vihear temple, it belongs to cambodia already. no question about it. please separate the temple from the areas slated for bilateral development. thank you!

wait to hear more about it and try to understand it before getting angry, please.

ANYONE in their right mind know that what thai really want from all this is NOT the ancient temple, BUT the land that the temple stood on it.

JUST like the vietcong slowly taking land from cambodia and laos.

ANGER of the people is the answer to these CROOKS thai and vietcong.
ANGER they will get. From ANGER, there will be payback, and justice.

It doesn't matter what the Thaicong belief maybe including AH Noppadon Pattama and he can go hell with his belief that the issue of Phrea Vihear is negotiable!

In the 21st century, the Thaicong want to pimp Cambodian Phrea Vihear temple to make money for Thaicong government is a no, no, and no proposition!

Any cooperation with the Thaicong to attract tourism dollar over the used of Cambodia Phrea Vihear temple is committing economic prostitution against the will of Cambodian sovereignty and dignity!

From now on the Cambodian government must ignore all the Thaicong theory regarding Phrea Vihear issue unless the Thaicong government wants to negotiate Surin, Srisaket, Buriram and Roi Et as autonomous regions!

Case closed!
Cambodian sovereignty is nonnegotiable!

no, you misunderstand, it not land either. the real issue here is the disagreement to develop the area of the border. i'm just trying to explain the real issue, please don't get me wrong by misunderstanding the issue. obviously, it is the border area, people know the temple sits on cambodian soil, everybody knows that already. but to develop the surrounding area requires further negotiation, whether to pull out the old map of 1962 court ruling or the what have you. from what i understand, the thai want a piece of the pie as in tourists coming to visit the cambodian temple of preah vihear with their money, of course. so they just want a piece of the tourist dollars. cambodia gov't can develop the areas surrounding our temple by ourselves by building fences or what have you, however, diplomatically speaking, we have to get cooperation from thailand as they share border with us, to develop the border areas (khmer side and thai side of the border, of course). i think this is what both sides of gov't is trying to solve which i think is good because the people on both sides of border can exchange, trade, and make a living peacefully along side one another. i know, it's hard to understand, but remember, this is the border area, they are talking about, not the temple or land underneath the temple, etc, like you insinuated. please try to understand this. both people have to work out a solution because in the real world, one can not just violate the other country like the way one pleases. that's not how the world operates. thank you. again, it's not the temple and the land the temple sits on, it's the cooperation to get the surrounding areas properly marked and then develop it, according to what i understand they are talking about. please don't worry. it'll work out with gov't to gov't diplomatic negotiation. god i'm tired of explaining, i hope everyone understands and can see a clearer picture, now. this is why it is so important for us to analyze the situation before we jump to a conclusion so quickly. thank you

Yes, it is teh land around the temple that counts. when you get that land, they will creep inside bit by bit likethey did to ta moan, sdok kak thom, etc. now those temples are theirto keep. the thais see the long term consequences. in the long term khmer will doze off and go to sleep, so they will send their princess to help repair the temple, then claim it is theirs to kkep. don't be silly.

can we build fences all around cambodia, please, to keep out our enemies who are hunger for our khmer land. in fact, we lost a lot of land to our neighbors already over the last couple hundred years, so we can't afford to lose again. we should build fences all around our country to keep out the thieves from stealing our land. this time, we can't just let them take our land easily anymore like in the past, when our kings didn't bother doing anything about it. cambodia needs a strong leader or leaders like back during the days of the khmer empire so we can take our land back. let marked our territory, can't let these thieves keep taking land like that!

Tell me where the hell you received your education for you to misunderstand the Thaicong ambition over and over! The Thaicong mission is clear and that is to co-joint development Cambodian Phrea Vihear temple to attract tourism dollar!

I don't give a fuck if the Thaicong want to develop on their side of the fucken border but they don't to mention anything about Cambodian Phrea Vihear temple over and over again as part of their development plan!

The Thaicong need to fuck off!

It's best to keep the Thai out, so there will not be anymore problems. We will talk to them if we want the surrounding area develop with Thailand. For now just say no period. Problems solved. Now they wanted joint development; later on they want the temple. Trust me just say no; everything solved.

Why don't Cambodia just simply hand over the temple to Thai?

Everyone knows that the Preah Vihear Temple belongs to Thailand, not mention that ruined Angkor Wat Temple; also, this temple belongs to Thailand.

Why don't you go step on a pile of shit and stick that foot in your mouth. You got that idea from your mother's lullaby that she used to sang to you while you were a baby. She was dreaming of something that she'll never have, EVER. People told me that your family were mentally unstable, but I didn't believe them until now. My advise to you is to go do some reading yourself first before posting such ignorant comments. Oh, better yet, go see a psychiatrist. The whole world knows that Preah Vihear, Angkor Wat, Phimai, Phnom Rung, Meuang Tam, Phnom Wan, Sdok Kok Thom temples, etc. belonged to Khmer. They are build by Khmer with Khmer inscriptions all over. Oh, one more thing, your mother has Khmer inscriptions on her, but too bad you can't check. Ask your father why he's so upset and angry all the times. I don't blame you... you're just a product of bad parenting.

People, people, people. Can we all just get along? We all know that Thai is so greedy. All they know is want, want, want, mine, mine, mine. You know things that little kids do? They already held possession of many of our temples and lands, but they want more. It's in their blood. They are like leeches.
They will not stop sucking. Lets give them everything, NOT. Oh, You know what I do to leeches? I salt them up and dry them in the sun. Try it yourself if you have the oportunity and see it yourself. It's quit fun to watch actually.
