VietNamNet Bridge - Vietnam’s investment in Cambodia has steadily increased to 115 million USD in 2007 and more investment from the country is expected in 2008, said a recent report from the Cambodian Ministry of Trade.
According to the ministry, the main areas for Vietnamese investment include construction of hydropower plants, mining and telecommunications, with projects valued at hundreds millions US dollars by well-known Vietnamese businesses such as the Army Telecommunications Corporation (Viettel), the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), the Vietnam National Coal Mineral Industries Group, and the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN).
Robust investment from Vietnam has helped a lot to boost up trade between the two countries. Two-day trade between Vietnam and Cambodia increased eight folds to 940 million USD in 2006 from 184 million USD in 2001, and made a record high of 1.1 billion USD in 2007.
Vietnam exported close to 1.1 billion USD worth of commodities, mainly textile facilities, plastics, home alliance, vegetables and fruits, confectionaries, cigarettes and detergent to Cambodia last year. It imported from the neighbour more than 180 million USD worth of farm produce, furniture, rubber and salt.
Cambodia’s Ministry of Trade said cross-border trade with Vietnam is expected to hit 2.5 billion USD by 2010.

Before the Vietcong government put any more investments in Cambodia and I like to see AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave government pass anti-corruption law first!
By nature the Vietcong government always practices bad business! I believe the Vietcong government needs to take their fucken so called investment some where else because the only people who benefited from the Vietcong investment over the years are AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave and the Vietcong middlemen mother fucker!
I like to see AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave start his own business some days and I wonder how long it will last! I believe the day for AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave mother fucker to experiment his economic reform or deformed on Cambodia and Cambodian are over! Who would have thought that Cambodia still remain the poorest country in the world after all years of the so called investment especially by the Thaicong and the Vietcong!
Cambodian consumer market must close to the Vietcong products until the Vietcong learn how to do fair trade and stop using their fucken slave such as AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave to get ahead of Cambodian law and order!
i know, although cambodia welcome investors, khmers aren't that fond of the youn and siem investment that much. cambodia need more investments from the western countries, japan, korea, china, etc., but i don't think we care so much about the siem and youn investments as these two countries aren't that better than cambodia. so just because we welcome investments, doesn't always mean overwhelmingly siem and youn businesses. first, these people should invest in their own country, instead of trying to overwhelm the cambodia market with their junks. i think we like to invite countries from further afield. we are not that fond of siem and yuon, to tell you the truth. and we have good reasons to think so, given historically.
The huge trade imbalance between VN and Cambodia
Dear Author;
The above title is wonderful, however, the problem of imbalance trade is a universal problem facing many countries around the world. Even USA tried hard to balance their trade with China [import from China surpassed the export from USA], nonetheless it would never be balanced.
As Rafelda the Malaysian Minister of Commerce once said "There is not such thing as balance of trade. For example, Malaysia could go without rice and in fact Malaysia main crop is not rice so we have to import from other country, therefore the imbalance of trade would always exist unless we have to plant and produce it ourself".
This would applied to Cambodia as well.
