Cambodia blacklists home-wrecking songs: media
TOKYO, March 17 (Reuters Life!) - Cambodian entertainment watchdogs have blacklisted three songs, arguing that they could encourage women to pursue other women's husbands, a Japanese news agency reported on Monday.
The Khmer Arts Association and the Cambodian Television Association said the songs -- "If I Can't be Your First Wife, Can I be Your Second?", "I Love Another's Husband" and "May I Have a Piece of Your Heart?" -- were demeaning to women, Kyodo news agency said in a dispatch.
"The songs are meant to put down women and their dignity," Kyodo quoted Ieng Sithol, president of the Khmer Arts Association, as saying. "As lovers of the arts, artists should act properly or we will be criticized by the public."
Artists are banned from singing the songs at concerts, on radio or television. Kyodo said the decision had upset some fans who felt that it unfairly targeted female singers.
Similar songs sung by men, such as "How beautiful! Whose Wife is She?" and "Even If She is Someone Else's Wife, That's OK" can still be performed freely.

Can see huge difference between Yeay Chhrouk rany and Super start Piseth Pilika.
This is the same fucken Communist system practice by AH HUN SEN and his old ugly bitch to suppress Cambodian people artistic creativity or freedom of expression! It seems that the more they oppressed Cambodian people and the worst Cambodian society has become and over the years and Cambodia has become the sex capital of the world for underage children! Now if the ugly bitch ban something to protect little children and I don't mind! But this ugly is too worry that someone might steal her one eye husband! This is ridiculous!
I honestly don't give a fuck how any Cambodian people want to sing, to think, or even to do with their life and it is the government job to enforce that no one violate the right of other!
Hey, you can sing all your heart out in your house, and no one will give a damn, but in public there is a limitation.
Slaughters exist in all levels!!!!
5:05 PM
What the fuck are you talking about?!
Only idiotic people take offense from song personally. Music and song are forms of art.
Oh Rany poor Rany, pail dael yoeung barn ch.. khnia, toeur aon deung teh thaa Rany chia mchass bess aa meh chor luoch pror ponn Khai Prasith.
Oh Rany, chor slab touv oi barn bett r.nn chit.oh oh Rany
Note: Rany was my old friend during our days in Prey Prasith together. It has nothing to do with Choum touy Bun Rany.
On the contrary, high civilized people will be offended at those songs.
My beloved 7:46PM!
So a ya saying that BunRany is a high civilized woman in Srok Khmer?
I'm asking Ms. Seang Teary (highly educated female), what is the balance between freedom vs women's right being abused by men's money and power? How do we balence between moral vs artists for money?
Lovers of democracy. Let's be fair. Many stories about Khmer_Americans went to Cambodia looking for second or thrid mistress causing serious turmoil to their families here with many divorces. Many problems with crimes and violences are being shown by Hollywood. These freedom of expression to gain sale of the CDs will give messages to sex addicted people that it's ok to cheat your spouses, your children, your in-law families...
This is my first time to applause Bunary's decision... Good job First Lady.
7:58, Yes that is what I said, but most Khmer is highly civilized also; which is why she get the support.
8:58, Seang Teary is not highly educated but highly brainwashed by the west. we needn't ask her anything because we already knew her answer.
Some of you may borned with extra tallent, some may get some etra luck, some may extra strong!
Please use your strengh, rallent, and luck with respect to human and civilization!
My beloved 9:15PM!
Yike! I am apparently speechless, when you are so confidently said Bun Rany is a highly civilised woman... Well... Of course, she is? Therefore, she doesn't publicly ban these songs!
12:14, Civilized people does get offended by those songs, but wild gorilla in the jungle doesn't give a damn, get it?
Okay, just in case you still don't get it. If you want to know who is civilized and who's not, just compare them to wild gorilla in the jungle, simple enough?
sometimes, i feel we need to modernize the family structure as well. i mean, it is alright to keep one's culture and tradition, however, sometimes, that can be too overwhelming or too sad, too stressful, so have some liberation for the family structure as well, especially for those who can't seem to have that kind of talent as everything required talent, nowaday! sometimes, clinging on to old ways can be very miserable in a way. liberate oneself from evil is not such a bad idea after all!
1:35, old and modern is a matter of perspective. We think we are modern, and gorilla think they are modern. So who's right and who's wrong?
In a civilised society, everything is written into law proposed by privated member bill or political party bill and be approved by Parliament. No law can be decided by one person. To protect woman from women abuses, the parliament should alreay have in the monogamy law which allow Cambodian man and woman to have onli one husband and one wife. The law should be added to protect women from all married man for not having to reveal their presence marriage status, their illness etc... all of these very define problems should have been in the law already.
Hello there Ms. PIGGY Rany...rofl!
If khmer men who are in power respect themselves then what is imposed by Mrs Hun Sen may be, just may be sensible.
It is very hypocritical for Mrs hun Sen to used her proxy power to to infringe the nation artistic expression which is the reflection of the reality created by the people in power.
A beautiful artist either accepted the faith of becoming a high ranking official's mistress or be coerced to be one. Regardless, she has no option in cambodia but lose.
It would be wise for Mrs Hun Sen to influence her husband to pass and enforce (not just written words like any other law in cambodia today that worth less than the paper it is written on) a law that would punish those men who adulterate.
i have to say i'm laughing my ass off everytime there is a comment there is always one person who spam about his gorilla analogy and how western trained Khmer are stupid and uncivilized.
this gorilla keeper doesn't seem to have much of anything else up his sleeve.
fact seem like he is just one jealous and bitter grass hoper.
Everyone you have to excuse that grasshopper.
its true its true. Motherland cambodia is being infested by these grasshoppers now a day. Our harvest and resources is going down because of their numbers.
Lets release the gorillas to the fields and have them feast on those grass hoppers.
Okay, just make sure the gorilla are not feasting on our crickets.
3:40, snap out of it, dude. You got everything backward. Rules and laws are for babies, not for mature and civilized people. Get it?
People should be able to freely express themselves in PUBLIC AND IN PRIVATE. It is NOT DEMOCRACY if it is only in private. I HATE the HUN XENS and their stupid rules. SOCIETY'S EXPRESSION CANNOT BE CONTAINED THROUGH FORCED OPPRESSION AND THREATS. DOWN WITH CPP.
Hey, people are free to express themselves anywhere, so long they don't adversely effected other people. What is so bad about that, huh?
If you think that is bad, you should see what they did in the US; I mean they banned praying in public places. you believe that?
Good point, mate!
Any argument?
Why is it so quiet here, all of a sudden?
hello! it's just a song, can choose not to learn from it or not to follow it. please be smart, don't let the song bother you, don't listen to it; don't buy it; and most importantly, don't give it a value when it's not! if you ask me, it's all in the attitude or mind!
It is not that simple, 5:10. Some musical rhythm is very influential. It is not easy to avoid. Furthermore, it could used as a carrier to propagate evilsm. Thus, it must be banned by authority as required. In a way, this is forcing people to accept a certain idea without them knowing about it, and that is illegal.
i can see your point, mate. i, for once a very selective person; i don't like rap music so i don't even bother to listen to it or buy it. i think it is a piece of garbage and worst. i, personally, chose to hang out with the wise, the enlightened ones, the smart and would rather prefer to learn from other valuable resources than from something like that. but, again, it is only my opinion. if you ask me, i think it's just about making money only. it's just a business, and without customers, businesses like these aren't going to last long! in the west, they called it boycotting which is like don't buy, don't bother; don't do business with it. booz-it! that's all.
Well yeah, the same here bro, we are not interfering with the music industry by promoting or condemning any type of music such rap, mambo, rock, morlam, saravan, or whatever else have we. What we are doing is preserving our moral value. we are just going after the idea that is embedded in the music. If they devalue our moral value, we will ban it, as simple as that.
it's just an entertainment; don't politicize it too much!
Preserving moral value is not politicizing.
