Cambodian Coordinating Council (Cam-CC) is the organization that heads two main cultural events in celebration of Cambodian New Year - the parade and El Dorado Park festivities. We are planning our festivities to relay a positive theme that aligns with our current theme, “Cambodia Town for Diversity,” and we are saddened that there has been controversy within the community surrounding the New Year’s celebration events.
There has been confusion of an invitation that was made to the Office of Deputy Prime Minister Sok An, Royal Government of Cambodia. Cam-CC is made-up of 21 member organizations. Two of our member organizations invited the Deputy Minister Sok An to participate in the Cambodian New Year Parade this year. Cam-CC has been informed that the Deputy Prime Minister Sok An will not attend the Cambodian New Year Parade.
We hope this settles any misunderstanding. The Cambodian New Year Parade and El Dorado Park festivities are intended to be enjoyed by participants, spectators, and the community. We hope you will join us this year. Thank you.

One of the boards of Cambodia Town said Cambodia Town did not invite Sok An. Why is Peter Long lying? Just because Sithea San invited Sok An does not mean that the invitation came from Cambodia Town, especially if none of the boards were aware of this invitation.

i think it is a good thing for the cambodian community in the USA to have invited m. sok an to the parade in long beach, ca. of course, those cambodians who want to demonstration have the rights to so do; this way mr. sok an can take the message back to cambodia of how unhappy and unsatisfied many cambodian/american are with the cambodia gov't for not doing enough for the country as many poor cambodian people are still suffering financial hardship in rural areas of cambodia and some parts of phnom penh as well. i think it is a good think if mr sok an can visit the cambodian parade in long beach. how else can unhappy and unsatisfied cambodians voice their grievance than to do it right in front of a high ranking official? thank you.

There is a commentator (5:54 a.m) in this site who demonstrated a considerable amount of dislike for this fellow, Ly Dip Ngoc (whatever it is) who brought the current Cam-CC/Sok An debacle into light.
What this chap (5:54 a.m) should have been doing was to stop his one liner or two liners crap, and instead take the time to inform Cambodian-Americans in Long Beach about Sok An and his economic policy direction for Cambodia. We know Sok An and the CPP is having enough of the Vietnamese (remember the reshuffling of generals and the internal issue involving Sar Kheng , and Chea Sim). Equally, the CPP intelligence organization knows that if Cambodia's economy is too interlink with the economic structure of Vietnam-- Cambodia is risking the Laotian situation. We know that the CPP is attempting to diversify Cambodia's investment by reach outward.. Hence the acceptance of Mr. Sok An to an invitation by the Cam/Cc.
We also know that individuals within the Cam/CC understood the direction of Sok An and the Cpp economic policy. They fail,however, to communicate this inner thought to their constituencies.
Furthermore, we know who Sok An is and we know that in the mid 1980s, his economic policy did not gain favor with the Vietnamese --Sok An's reward for attempting to liberalize Cambodia's economy from a communistic state control to a more privatize operation, earned him a spot in the Vietnamese jail.
Thus stated, it would be very educational if 5:54 a.m. help us Cambodian-Americans understand the inner thought of his bosses in Cambodia. Some Cambodian-Americans may not like the CPP, but this does not mean that all Cambodian-Americans will close their earns to the need of Cambodia. Relatives in Cambodia have benefitted from their relatives in America..., which benefited the CPP... By sending money to relatives in rural area, Cambodian-Americans help to off set some of the economic inequality exist in Cambodia.
But 5:54 A.m. must disseminate information in an honest, clear and understandable manner, and to allow the Cambodian-Americans to consider and digest his discourse. Allow them to come to their conclusions.
Cambodian-Americans, especially the 30 something and the younger generation are a proud bunch. They see themselves as having survived a brutal history, transcend cultural differences, and they believe themselves the embodiment of a free Cambodia.
So what is it 5:54 a.m.? Continue your one or two liner crap or doing something more productive, like honestly informing us of the inner thoughts of Cambodia's leader on future economic policies...
We love to see Cambodia diversify it economy away from Vietnam and China, and to ivolve America, Central America or Europe...more.
