Access to Cambodia is set to be improved in the future, with plans to expand Sihanoukville airport, according to reports.

The government is set to invest around $35m (£17.3m) as it attempts to develop the Cambodian tourism industry.

Finance minister Keat Chhon said that the developments will turn Sihanoukville airport into a thriving international hub, according to the Cambodia Daily newspaper.

Larger aircraft will be able to land at the airport, with runways set to be extended to 2,500 metres this year and eventually to 4,000 metres.

The expansion plans have been enabled by a loan that was given to Societe Concessionaire des Airports, the company that operates Sihanoukville, along with Siem Reap and Phnom Penh airports.

Cambodia is situated in south-east Asia, where it is sometimes overshadowed by the more popular locations of Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Don't tell me the government will extend the concession period to Societe Concessionaire des Airports for some more years which Khmer still work for nothing. The Airport can generate millions dollars a year. Why Cambodian Gov't so stupid? Because of prince Rahnarith sign the concession agreemetn to give the airport to SCA that what we face today. But Hun Sen should know better as he is 2nd Prime Minister at that time and should fight for it. Good Luck.

Well, if you know it all, why didn't you bid for the airport yourself, huh?

yes, also expand phnom penh and siem reap airports as well to handle long haul flight from around the world. why not make them all 4000 meters runways to handle jumbo jets!! dont' leave cambodia out of it.

actually, civil aviation earn much more millions that SCA. but where the money goes? in the pockets of the same as usual.... if you let the airport managed by the locals, trust me, they would make the terminal with bamboo shoot or the runway with red soil so that they can divert money.

No doubt we have to expand everything and add more, 2:10. What you are looking at now is only about 10-15% of what it will be at the end.
