Display of shame in front of visiting tourists: The Poipet border entry gate is so filthy that tourists start to clean it up

Banteay Meanchey province – On 18 March, about 10 tourists started to pick up trash next to the round-about near the Poipet International border gate, located in Kbal Spean village, Poipet commune, O’Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province. The 10 foreigners said that they were traveling from Thailand to Cambodia to visit our country through the Poipet International border gate.

These tourists are resting on Poipet and they were visiting the border areas. They noted that Cambodia survived the genocidal regime, and just got out of war. Even though Cambodia seems to have a lot of major developments such as roads, electricity, large houses, etc… hygiene is still very lacking. When these tourists crossed the border gate, they walked toward the round-about nearby and they noticed that piles of trash are left on the sidewalks, and even the satellite hospital in O’Chrov district does not have trash cans to store the trash. This piling of rotten trashes in public places seriously affects the environment and health. The visiting tourists then decided to buy large black trash bags to collect the trash, they also taught the local people to understand about environmental and health issues that may be affected by the trash.

One of the visiting tourist said that, even though he is just a traveler, but when he reaches an area, and he sees that trash is left in the open like this, he does not allow it to remain as it is, he would go around and educate the local people to help preserve the environment in order to protect their health.

While well-intentioned tourists coming from developed nations are not afraid to pick up trash in our country, our authorities should think hard about this issue as well (and not allow trash to pile up in public places like this anymore).

Shame, KI Media?

It is the opposition who should be ashamed. Even the tourists want to help the government, not the opposition.

Why is so big deal about collecting trash? Al poor countries have ton of problems, and the tourists help because they love to share their kind heart to poor countries. It will take time because Cambodia is poor.

SRP's supporters are so fukk up and complain everything.

To Anon 5:41 AM (000)

You forget that these are the words from Koh Santepheap, a pro-CPP newspapers. Maybe the CPP should rein in on their own people. Short of that, it simply shows the CPP incompetency, as usual.

Shame to Hun Sen govt. Good at collecting money for his pockets but not good at using that money to clean up the mess. It is a shame that the tourists, who are spending their own money to boost Cambodian economy, have to do the dirty works. Shame! shame to Hun Sen and his corrupt ministers.

This is the only way that the khmer government will feel some shame.

wow!! these people have big heart and love for their fellow human beings even though they are not cambodian. i'm so impress. i think they are god's people as god teach us to love others, to help those less fortunate and to teach other less fortunate people. may this sight brings more good things for cambodia as many people in cambodia just think about survival as they lost everything under teh brutal KR regime and just now starting to rebuild their lives however they can; and thank you, on behalf of all good cambodian people for your love, assistance, understanding, compassion and great contribution to the community. may this set in a good example for all local cambodians to start doing the same for the sake of their own health in their community and society as large. may god glad you all.
