Election debate: Hun Sen gets "cold feet"?

Kem Sokha (L) and Hun Sen (R)

Hun Sen Refused to Participate in the Debate

8th March 2008
By Pov Ponlok Radio Free Asia
Translated from Khmer to English by Khmerization

Mr. Hun Sen, a prime ministerial candidate for the Cambodian People’s Party who is also the current Prime Minister of Cambodia, has rejected on Saturday the 8th that he will not be participating in a face to face debate with other prime ministerial candidates in the upcoming 2008 election.

The prime minister’s rejection was made after Mr. Kem Sokha, president of the Human Right Party, wrote a letter dated 7th March requesting the chairman of the National Election Committee (NEC) to organise a debate forum among all the prime ministerial candidates during the upcoming parliamentary and prime ministerial election in July 2008.

The prime minister said: “This morning there is a newspaper article which reported that Mr. Kem Sokha, the president of the Human Right Party, had requested for all prime ministerial candidates to participate in a televised face to face debate. When I read the newspaper article I thought to myself that: in the United States there are always presidential debates because the elections in the United States are not elections to elect the party but they are presidential elections to elect the presidents. In France is the same. The elections are presidential elections to elect the presidents. In Cambodia the electoral system is a proportional system whereby the voters vote for the party and that winning party elects its prime minister. But he had requested for the debate forum among all the prime ministerial candidates. I wish to declare that I do not need to participate in such a debate but my programs, like the people have seen, are trying to solve the problems facing the people.”

In response to the prime minister’s rejection Mr. Kem Sokha said that the prime minister has no political will to improve and to push for a more democratic election process. He appealed to the prime minister to reconsider his position regarding his participation in the debate with other prime ministerial candidates.

Mr Kem Sokha said: “I respect his decision but it will show to the people whether he wants to improve the democratic process or not? I am of the opinion that if he wants the election to be transparent with equality among all political parties he must support this proposal.”

The prime minister stressed that he is not afraid of the face to face debates and he was proud to say that he used to participate in the face to face negotiations with the Tripartite Coalition Government which included the former king Sihanouk, Mr. Son Sann and Mr. Khieu Samphan in the efforts to bring peace to Cambodia in the early 1990s.

Mr Kem Sokha had also appealed to the National Election Committee to make its own decision regarding his party’s proposal independently without being influenced by the prime minister’s statement of rejection.”

Mentally weak, physically pathetic, coward to the extreme, Hun Sen dedicates some days and his time to play golf, Im sure he is not that busy. Such a weak leader who knows he would be beaten with no contest in a debate.

Wrong, just because we don't want to talk to Dogs, it doesn't mean nothing. There are many dogs that we currently don't talk to today.

If I were Hun Sen I would do the same as the debate place does not fit my thousands of advisors. Hun Sen breaks the world's record of Leaders having the advisors to run the country. Having too many advisors causes him a big mess too that why sometime he send some of them to get jailed. Watch out guys!

As above, what has he for the debate? If he dare to come, he is going to be KO-ed.

Unlike the Paris conference in the
90's, this debate is for the future of the nation in the next 5 years.
Why is PM Hun Sen who received multiple PHD's afraid of the election debate?
Does he have enough knowledge to talk in the debate?

Hun Sen is too intelligent to give oppositions undue publicity.

Bullshit, you can't say because one don't want to debate, they are afraid.

There are many people who don't want to debate here too (on Ki Media). Does that mean they are afraid?

God damn it! Look around you in Cambodia. What have you seen?!

God damn it! Under our PM's leadership, Cambodia has morphed and transformed from a slum into a beautiful country with exponentially robust economic growth and continuing developments throughout the country and that because the economic paradigm has shifted and gravitated toward political stability. Suffice to say, with the PM's unequivocal leadership traits (aforementioned), he does not to discuss or debate with these retarded gorillas to the point.

AH HUN SEN is the greatest debater in the whole Kingdom of Cambodia and he has to do is not to show up! He even scares to debate on his achievement! Ahahhahahhahahha!

AH HUN SEN one way communication can only brainwashed dirt poor uneducated Cambodian farmers!

Anonymous said...

Well, not all of us look at things that way.

Anonymous said...

PS: Oh btw, what is the sense of debate with people without economic plan again?

Anonymous said...

Talk about economic plan? So are you saying that AH HUN SEN has no economic plan?

AH HUN SEN must not know the whole economic plan of the opposition otherwise he would claim as his! To make this debate in honor AH HUN SEN himself and why not just focus on his achievement! Ahhahahha

What kind of a leader is that when the fucken leader even afraid to talk about his achievement! Ahahhahahahha

Hello OOOO,

Hun Sen knew that he was not trained for civilised democratic debate. He is more familiar with using violence. I don't think he would have the ball for this kind of debate, having observed his language so far. He would be pounded mercilessly on the podium by Kem Sokha or Sam Rainsy. And that where Hun Sen's dogs would come in drove to do the bidding for their master's humiliation. For Hun Sen, in a word: chicken.

The opposition has already had enough publicity.

No, we have our Rectangular Economic plan, remember? And right now we are working on our Pentagon Economic plan to be followed by our Hexagon Economic plan.

Man, we see what Cambodia will be like 10-15 years from now accurately already while our oppositions haven't even got a clue what they are talking about most of the time.

One pillar of that Rectangular shit is getting rid of corruption. it it is getting worse. yep, i remeber that empty talk to the donors.

More development has resultetd in more poor people land being stolen.

Triangular development means the yuons were handed over the land for free. More trees cut down.

Oppositon has better economic plan than yours. When we get in we will take real action, not empty promise. We will put word into action.

Anonymous said...

The reasons Hun Sen rejected the Kem Sokha's proposal is not because he is too busy but because he is scared to debate. Kem Sokha or Rainsy might raise the issue of land grabbings, illegal logging, human right abuses, electoral fraud and corruption etc. and Hun Sen will lose face. Another thinbg is, like someone said, the debate room is too small to put all his hundreds of advisors. And like someone said, Hun Sen is only good at talking to himself. Evey week he talks for over two, three hours on TVK trying to brain wash the poor and uneducated peasants. The fact is that these poor people hate him to the bone. They turn their TV off when they see and hear Hun Sen talk.

God damn it, gorrillas! What do you have on your plate for economic blueprint and our PM doesn't? Facts (not myths): foreign investments, developments, economic propitious and more importantly political stability would help to explicate as to why the PM is still the best leader for Cambodia and its people.

5:30, there is no way to satisfied everyone anywhere, especially when there are overwhelming amount of work to be done for people. You can only help so many people each day, month, or year. Those who did not received the benefit on time will naturally be unsatisfied with your work.

Sam Rainsy or Kem Sokha does not have magic wand and there is no way that they could have done better and at the same time satisfied everyone. Don't even try to pull our leg, dude.

Anonymous said...

5.55 p, dude, the magic wand is good governance. that is what SRP is strongly advocating. Rule of law. Not only on the mouth's lips. A non-CPP party like SRP or HRP will develop the country even faster.

Anonymous said...

God damn it! Listen up! What I've heard thus far, particularly from the gorillas' side, are political rhetorics who claimed to have the economic blueprint for Cambodia. Again, I say to all of the gorillas to see what the PM's leadership has done to Cambodia and its people economically.

Now, if you pardon me, I need to pull my pisser to make water.

Anonymous said...

5:55p, dude, you seemed to think that Hun Sen is the magic wand himself and no one can do it better than him. 29 years in power and people are getting poorer- I don't talk about you and your corrupt cronies in Phnom Penh. I talk about the poor peasants in the countryside. You go to the countryside and you will see- some families are too poor to the point of starving. The economic growth only benefit a few corrupt officials and their cronies in Phnom Penh. Look at the rest of the world, dude. America, Japan, Australia, UK, Germany and France and so on....they change their leaders every 3,4 or 5 years and look at their country. You probably live in one of the country I've listed. If so please have pity on your poor brothers and sisters back home. Changing meaning moving forward, not changing meaning staying in the same place. Keeping Hun Sen and the CPP meaning Cambodia will be the same- not moving forward and only stay in the same place- poor.

Anonymous said...

Disagreed, people are not getting poorer under PM Hun Sen leadership but richer.

But yes, the few that had not yet been touched by our economic benefit indeed get poorer and poorer due to the rising inflation and lack of job. However, I assure you they will see better days soon. We can't just help everyone simultaneously without magic wand.

Hey, hey, hey, kom Sen you pek Sy vinh teo chnganh men chnganh cham kit tiet.

Please be fair or learn to be fair.

North Vietnam and China involved in killing field but North Vietnam got the lot ; South Vietnam, Khmer Krom, Cambodia and Lao- and China got nothing. Do you think it is fair? I knew that China was going to get something from Vietnam, and it was true.

So it is with Hun Sen, he can not be there all the time, that the law of the nature.

Anonymous said...

Yeah I agreed, why can't the Cambodian people see all the candidates debating or questions by the people on the TV. We should do like U.S.A. We need to see all these candidates answer in appropriate way to help boost Cambodian living standards such as: Health Care, Welfare, Financial Assistance, Schooling and Elderly Assistance etc. We need enhance these needs.

Eh, children of whores and morons' band(strip) of this Sino blog - Khmer ki media, you know not that Under the regime corrupt archi of the traitre LON NOL sold in the USA and treated(manipulated) by CIA, there had been never public debates for the choice of the candidates for the elections.

If Mr. Hun Sen claims he is truly democratic, then Mr. Hun Sen should not be scare of a democratic debate. This is simply a power of ideas and the leaders' personalities.

Democratic Election must entail Live Democratic Debate(s) among party leaders, in front of the nation.

Khmer Democrat.

When it's time for Hun SEn to appeal for questions backs out. He is no responsible prime minister for his people and nation. He is a strong man for cheating and robbing his people's rights to democratic process, the process that will lead us a more-er, free-er and justifieable nation. I know most Cambodians do not see as the important process beyond their day-to-day struggle to put food on the table. Sad but true...

My beloved Khmers!

In order to debate with Samdech Dey Dek Cho Hun Sen, you have an uncountable Ph.Ds, wihout attending any school, like him. Therefore, he is more scholarly confortable with powerfully magnificent words as "send ya a Coffin!".." If I want to kill ya, it's so easy only with my pinky finger!"

God damn it, gorilla! We love it when you and the rest made a fool out of yourselves. Also, it's quite fine to express your anger and frustration.

We're certain that you're glad that we're with you all the way in each of every step ... but, again, remember that we're are two steps ahead of you. We're watching you, gorillas!

Now, go fuck yourself!

Fuck you, asshole! You're one of the dumbest and stupidest fucking gorilla I've seen thus far. Here, you tried to impress yourself and others by manifesting your intellectual capacity (which you have none), yet you've made a fool out of yourself and your fellow clowns!

Hey, if the shoe fits, wear it.

As a democratic government, it is all the canidates' duties to have the debate. Its not a " if he want to, or not " !

Hun sen is a sorry excuse, big mouth scared of vietcong PM of cambodia.

He should be shamefull for being scared of vietnam. He is all but wrong for being PM. He married vietcong, and listened to only vietcong.

Anonymous said...

True, but this is not Europe or America. In srok khmer we do thing differently. That is we don't debate with people who don't know what they are talking about. In srok khmer we observe Khmer hierarchy, cultural, ... and what have we. And they don't do that in Europe and America.

My beloved 4:47AM!

Perhaps, once again I am pleasantly thankful for your affectionate and sympathetic words, especailly "F..K you, a$$hole!" In addition, I have mentally knew myself pretty well that I am literally illerate. Therefore, that's the reason I am unconscience-strickenly agreeing with you that I am truly one of the dumbest and stupidest!

Do you ever conscientiously think that our beloved Samdech Dey Dek Cho Hun Sen always unearthly making a fool of himself?

Who the fuck are you? Religious organizer?

Coffins are still free!

Fucking Ah Khmer-US always low opinionated the real Khmer. They mock our culture, our heritage, our leader, and everything that we do. Meanwhile, they haven't done shit that is better than we can. If the US ever cut off their welfare supplies, you will find their corpses all over long beach.

The debate should go on without Hun Sen particiaption.

Anonymous said...

Well, why can't I do it for my PM?

Maybe we can invite those PM contenders here for a warm up first.

Anonymous said...

My beloved 11:52AM!

Who am I? Fortunately, I am Khmer! Even though I am profoundly illiterate, I am blessfully proudful that I am a son of farmer!

Once again thank very much for a free coffin, which I am desperately needed one, because one day I will inevitably die!

PS. I kinda like ya a lot!

Anonymous said...

11:05 PM

Preparation for the inevitability is not a bad thing, particularly when getting coffin (s) free of charge is always a plus.

Certainly, I'd have to unequivocally and succinctly concur with you with the fact that , indeed, we only die once ... that's why we're generously offer you (and the rest) free coffins (if you -- and the rest -- decided to claim Khmer-Khrom). Of course, this is just a friendly advice.

Moreover, you have to like me, because I'm quite affable and very capable of numerous inconceivably imaginable things in which most people unable to attain.

My beloved 4:19AM!

Once again, thank you very much your sweetest generous offer of da free coffin. I think, therefore I am not psychologically or mentally ashamed of being Khmer nor Khmer Krom.

I am a human being, so I initialize acting humanly, because I did not academically have an uncountable Ph.Ds like our beloved Samdech Dey Dek Cho Hun Sen. More important, I don't personally have to threaten to kill someone who is simply disagreeing with me.

PS. da pure reason why I kinda like ya, because ya always paintakingly use da sweet and loving words, "F..K,".. "Free coffines.." not because ya quite affable and very capable of something as HunHood?

Yeah, yeah, yeah,..., and we also know you are not ashame of being maggot feeders who live in dark shit pit, 5:07.

Anonymous said...

My beloved 7:58AM!

Now I am completely understanding the simple reason why Khmer mentality can progressively unify as beloved loving brother?

Anonymous said...

Snap out of it, fool (8:44). Khmer people get along fine with respectable Khmer-Thai, Khmer-Lao, Khmer-Burma ... and what have we, but we are not going get involved with losers, Ah Khmer-Yuon Maggots feeders like you. We don't like maggots, get it?

Anonymous said...

My beloved 9:06AM!

When I have firmly said that I was completely understanding, it's consistently and literally meant," I dig it!".

Forgive me, if I were conscientiiously missing your remarkable and nobble statement above. Frankly asking, I think, therefore I am a fool and unrespectful Khmer. Ironically, I am hopeful that you don't mind.
Since you are openly and confidently getting along with few folks, but increasingly hating Khmer-Youn, do ya love Youn as Samdech HunHood does?
