Hun Sen buyout of 2 other defectors from Ratanakiri … at this rate Hun Sen’s gov’t will be drowned by secretary of states soon

Kong Chan, the SRP committee chairman in Ratanakiri province and a member of the SRP steering committee, and Kong Sam Ath, the SRP Youth Movement director for Ratanakiri, have resigned from their party to join the CPP. The two men made the same claim as the other defectors who preceded them, claiming that they cannot live with the SRP because of the clannish mentality and the promise it did not keep. Kong Chan said after his defection, the people who support him will also join the CPP, if not 100% of them, at least close to 100%, including both Cambodian people and ethnic minority people. The Rasmei Kampuchea newspaper quoted Oknha Try Pheap, Hun Sen’s advisor (and crony) and the person responsible for enticing Kong Chan to join the CPP, as saying that Hun Sen requested King Sihamoni to nominate Kong Chan as a government advisor with a rank equivalent to that of a secretary of state, and Kong Sam Ath will be nominated as an economic advisor with a rank equivalent to that of an under secretary of state.

It is normal for politicians to switch from a party to another. No one can stop this flow in current Cambodian political situations. Rewards are enormous for defectors to enjoy and secure for a while. After years of struggling in an opposition party, they maybe hopeless of becoming a ruling party.

It may take years for an opposition party to rule or never rule like in South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Myanmar, etc. It's totally different from Thailand's politics where a brand-new party can win elections like the case of Thai Rak Thai and People's Power Party.

It's just a nature of politics and there maybe a case where Prime Minister Hun Sen does not need a strong opposition. In his recent letter to Prince Thomico, Hun Sen wrote that he is following the path of the Sangkum Reastr Niyum. How many opposition seats in the Assembly during the Sangkum? Finally, in 20 years you will remember the neo-Sangkum as a development champion and the likes of SRP, HRP, NRP, and Fun will be out of people's mind. If this four parties unite, the country can be developed faster and also establish a strong check and balance.

But who don't want to rule a country without being opposed?

Well said, 2:41, but I like to add that at this point, we shouldn't worry too much about politic but the economy. If we can just maintained a double digits or near double digits, we will, soon or later, to be out of the wood. Thereafter, we can always reform to anything we want, that is if we wanted to.

I believe this unhappiness starts with SRP's re-election of Mr. Eng Chay Eang back to the party steering committee. SRP should know better to then to put a person with a scandal of corruption up on its core member.

The CPP is all corruption and they expect such things, but the SRP that claim to clean up corruption, it just give people the wrong idea.

I am losing hope in SRP

Those defectors are just the living evidence to identify the dictatorship and twisting political behavior of Hun Sen.

The world is moving forward, the Songkum Reastr Niyum of one country one party will never come back again.

The history will record the dictatorship evolution in Cambodia.
