Koh Kong Fishermen Worried About the Future

With catches of crab, shrimp and fish dwindling, fishermen of the seas off Koh Kong province say they worry their living conditions will worsen.

The traditional fishermen told VOA Khmer recently they were facing pressure from illegal, large-scale fishing.

They said they cannot compete with large vessels from Cambodia's neighbors, who sometimes use illegal methods, such as electroshock.

This is inevitable. Better make new plan fishermen. I don't thing we can do much for you here. The price of sea food in Cambodia is beyond anyone imagination right now.

To depend on AH HUN SEN Vietcong slave to protect Cambodian natural resource is like depending on a thief to look after your house!

I guess all those Chinese navy patrol boats are useless! Maybe it is time to use wooden boats!

Hell, we need more supplies of sea food. $4-$6/kg of shrimp is out of this world. I don't care how they get the damn shrimp but get it.
