One Funcinpec party leader declared that this party – which was an achievement by King-Father Norodom Sihanouk who spurned away from it – will be dissolved if it will not obtain a single seat during the upcoming July 2008 election. Lu Laysreng, Funcinpec party vice-president No. 1, told The Mekong Times during in an interview that he is officially announcing that, if Funcinpec will not receive any seat in the upcoming election, “we, Lu Laysreng, Keo Puth Rasmey, Sisowath Sirirath, and Nhiek Bun Chhay will ask the Funcinpec national advisory committee to dissolve this party, and it will not be preserved so as not to lose face.” Lu Laysreng added that if the party is not dissolved, he will ask to walk out from the party because he is the most senior party member. He said that under Keo Puth Rasmey and his leadership, if Funcinpec cannot get any seat, how could he continue such leadership? However, he said that he cannot fathom the idea that Funcinpec could not get any seat at all.

Party dissolution is inevetably imminent that will undoubtedly bring the demise of royal potency.
What do you expect when a party was created by Sihanouk whose credits were below zero.Khmer have no faith in Sihanouk anymore.So any party that relate to royal is useless, and unreliable, so it's better to abolish now .

Agreed, 6:18. I don't like to see them desolved, but the party is exterminating itself. I don't know what we or anyone can do to pull them out of the mess. The only slim chance that they got is for the King to do something that will help to revive their image, but it will take a miracle for that to happen.

During the election of 91 or 93 Hun Sen or CPP lost the election and Sihanouk called Hun Sen to come back and join. If Sihanouk don't let Hun Sen join Hun Sen going to break away with his own autonomous. What ashame. During that time if Hun Sen threaten to do that there is no way on earth the UN would let him do that. But the failure of today is Sihanouk.

The country should have only two parties , the one in power and the opposition.To have multiple parties will never work ,it only divided themselve on one side of the equation.So FUNCINPEC happen to do the right thing BY DISSOLVING THEMSELVES .The world hope that funcinpec people will join SRP in order to compete with CPP, or the other way around.
2:49Am- very right comment. Hun Sen threatened to break up Cambodia if he was not given a PM job when he lost election in 93. I think if Funcinpec stood firm Hun Sen can't do anything and UNTAC won't let Hun Sen do what he wanted. If Funcinpec form a coalition with the Chea Sim faction only, Chea Sim accept that the CPP will get a deputy PM post only, not Second PM post like Hun Sen. And Chea Sim at that time nominated Sar Kheng as deputy PM to Ranariddh. Funcinpec should stand firm and sideline Hun Sen. They made a mistake and now they suffered the consequences.
Yeah, but in the 1993 election, Hun Sen lost the election to Sihanouk, but Sihanouk is not supposed to run in the election because he's King, that is why the runner up (CPP) won the 1993 election.
