On Tuesday, the National Election Committee (NEC) officially rejected the request made by Kem Sokha, HRP president, to hold a face to face question and debate between all the PM candidates from the various political parties during the campaign for the upcoming July 2008 election. The Mekong Times reported that Im Suosdey, NEC president, said that the reason there would be no political debate because this is an election to select MPs based on a proportional system, and that this is not an election to select a prime minister. Furthermore, during the election campaign, the NEC will organize an equal-time program where each political party can send in their PM candidates to participate and provide their opinions during this program. Kem Sokha accused the NEC of not being independent and that it is under the order of the CPP. Kem Sokha said that if Hun Sen or the ruling party does not want something, the NEC will follow suit. Last week, Hun Sen declared that this debate is not necessary for him because he has a clear political program already.

No debate for Hun Sen since he has clear political program already.

Hanoi demarcated borderline at will,
Corruption is awy of ruling party life,
Blind leads dumbs and scums as usual,

Big talk no gut to face small guys, how tough!

Guys, stop pulling our leg here, will ya? we know you don't really wanted to see the debate, but a boxing match between PM and Sam Rainsy.

Here's what I see in my crystal ball: Sam Rainsy, going to use his fuzzy mathematic and accused PM of mismanaged trillions of dollars given by foreigners for the last couple centuries. In return, PM throw a right cross right on Sam Rainsy's Jaws and knock out all his teet and end up win the debate because Sam Rainsy can't talk without teet in his mouth.

Now, tell me: what is so fascinating about that?

Yes, trillion of dollars of mismanagment is what Hun Sen feared will be exposed. Rainsy will come out of the debate a clear winner. Hun Sen will have no leverage to knock out Rainsy. Rainsy and Sokha has a lot to knock at Hun Sen...corruption, illegal logging, land grabbing, border issues, illegal immigration issues. these are what Hun Sen scared the most. Hun Sen has a lot to lose, that's why I rejected the debate proposal outright.

Hey, westerner is not KruTeey here, only Khmer can do that.

Actually, when Kem Sokha saw Sam Rainsy's teeth flew across the room, he's speechless and lost the debate.

NEC is CPP's tool to white wash their communist mindset.

No, but seriously, did the EU, Un, or International claimed that the NEC is biased toward the CPP?

i don't know how the cambodian system work, however, i think that it serves our country well by having any potential prime minister candidates debate on national tv for the first time in cambodian history, as to set a good example for future leader of cambodia to come face to face is an excellent idea because not only people can see who they can vote for, but also the entire country can see how well their potential can talk, especially to see if they can speak Khmer well, not just foreign languages.

There is nothing good about bashing each other with rhetoric, spin, and propaganda. It is just a waste of time. The media love it because they make million from prime time commercial. I know westerner love it because some just love the fight, some love to hear the false promise, ..., but we (Khmer) don't want any of that stuff. We don't want to westernize our people. We want to remain Khmer. Get it?
