On Wednesday 12 March, the US Department of State publicly issued a world report in which it sorts through the human rights condition in 196 countries, including that of Cambodia during 2007.
According to the US Department of State, Cambodian still has a lot of progress to make. The State Department indicates that human rights are not sufficiently respected still. It denounces “the arbitrary arrests, the feeling of impunity among the security forces, the increasing number of land disputes, the forced evictions, the endemic corruption, and the increasing number of trafficking in persons.” The only positive point reported in the report is the arrest made against the 5 high-ranking Khmer Rouge officials.

Where is the surprise? I doubt that the US ever said anything good about any country. A lot of times it forgot to look at itself in the mirror, but hey, if they want to play hypocrite judge of the world, let them have fun by themselves.

I think the U.S. expects us to have a flawless and impeccable system, while the U.S. has its flaws and imperfection. Therefore, I say throw ou the garbage!

human rights is one of the most important aspect of being a democratic society, and cambodia is no exception! must protect human rights at all cost!!! we don't want it to be like the KR era again!
