Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej said on Tuesday he and the government have agreed that Cambodia should go ahead and apply to have Preah Vihear temple made a UN World Heritage site - but not the surrounding land.
"Cambodia and Thailand are preparing to issue a joint communique, but first I have to inform the Thai people," Mr Samak said, immediately after he returned from a two-day official visit to Phnom Penh.
"Cambodia confirmed that they will propose only the temple site for World Heritage status, not the surrounding area," he told the media.
Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama said the communique would also stipulate that Thailand and Cambodia must jointly manage the area surrounding Preah Vihear.
Last year, the UN cultural unit Unesco decided to turn down the Cambodian application for the temple to get Heritage status, mostly because Thai officials were ambivalent.
The temple has been a sore spot in Cambodian-Thai relations for decades. In 1962, the two countries took their disputed ownership of Preah Vihear to the World Court, which decided the temple was owned by Cambodia.
Complicating the nationalist card is the problem that there is no easy access to the temple from Cambodia, because it sits atop a sheer cliff, and can be reached only through Thailand.

This is Cambodian temple and Cambodia should have the rights to do as it see fit for its own interest. There is no Thai stipulation in this matter to how we should develop our culture heritage. Just leave Cambodia alone for some peace!!! Do not give in to the Thai.
What about Prasat Ta Moan? Come get real. We need to put this Khmer heritage in the UNESCO too.Please don't tell me they distracting us for not focus on Prasat Ta Moan.
This is fucken outrageous when the fucken Thaicong still continue to press their claim that Cambodia must jointly develop the surrounding area of Khmer Phrea Vihear temple for economic purpose!
The fucken Thaicong used the word "surrounding area" with the aim to turn Khmer Phrea Vihear temple into Vatican City because the surrounding area can't be claimed by Khmer! This kind of Thaicong logic must not allow to float and to trick Khmer leaders and population into making the wrong decision by sharing Khmer property, Khmer sovereignty and Khmer economic success with the Thaicong government which is called by the Thaicong government as win-win agreement! No! This is not a win-win agreement because the Thaicong used what Cambodia has which Khmer Phrea Vihear temple to make money and this is called “pimping”! The fucken Thaicong leaders need stop treating Khmer people as their bitch!
The fucken Thaicong leaders had been playing with the issue Khmer Phrea Vihear far too long and it is time to put end to the stupid Thaicong game! The Thaicong leaders had been using many dirty tactics to slow down Cambodia economic progress by using the Khmer Phrea Vihear temple issue and turn it into border issue with UNESCO (UNESCO deal only with cultural issue!), by pressuring Khmer leaders into economic cooperation with the Thaicong, and now the Thaicong force the Khmer to claimed only Khmer Phrea Vihear temple but not the land around the temple! The Thaicong even used the dirty tactics to claim that Khmer Preah Vihear temple can only be accessed from the Thaicong side which is very misleading as if the Khmer Preah Vihear temple located inside Thailame and Khmer people is cut off completely a from Khmer Preah Vihear temple! And can anybody tell me how did the fucken Thaicong were able to access Khmer Preah Vihear temple is such a manner from their side of the border? It is because the fucken Thaicong build their fucken paved roads to Khmer Phrea Vihear temple and that is how they can have accessed the Khmer Preah Vihear temple from their side! Why can stupid Khmer government do the same as the Thaicong after all Khmer Preah Vihear temple belongs to the Khmer? Khmer people will have to fly into Khmer Preah Vihear temple? Ahahahahh
Please remember that the Thaicong government had closed their border to Khmer people and Khmer Phrea Vihear temple many times before to show their contention, rivalry and non-cooperation behavior to make Cambodian people suffered from economic hardship because the Thaicong government knew that 90% of dirt poor Cambodian people depend on the Thaicong products and the border trade for survival but this is very misleading perception because the Khmer people can get their consumer products from somewhere else too such as from Taiwan, Korea, China, US, Japan, and EU…! Please just remember that the Thaicong are not in business to share or cooperate anything with Khmer people! Please just remember that on average at least 12 Khmer people got shot and killed by the Thaicong army along Khmer-Thaicong border every year and the death Khmer people should be putt in a special coffin cover with Khmer flag and announce on Khmer national TV of the Thaicong naked aggression and brutality for violating basic human right without due process! This is just to show all you Khmer leader and population that the Thaicong are in business to kill Khmer people, to take what Khmer have, and to use what Khmer have to pursue their economic interest! Now, why do stupid Khmer leaders and population are so stupid not to see such things! It is one thing to see Khmer people suffer from the Thaicong or the Vietcong aggression but to see Khmer people suffer from the Thaicong or Vietcong aggression and to see stupid Khmer leaders colluding with the Thaicong leaders or the Vietcong leaders is such a shame beyond any words to describe the humiliation to be born as Khmer people and it will not promote peace and stability but will only promote animosity and hostility! I believe Khmer leaders must not allow the Thaicong to use Khmer Preah Vihear temple to advance their economic interest by any mean because Khmer Preah Vihear temple represent cultural icon, the achievement of Khmer civilization, the national symbol, and the symbol of Khmer pride of their identity for being Khmer in the world!
It take only two to play the stupid Thaicong game on the issue of Khmer Preah Vihear temple but it takes only one to end the stupid Thaicong game and I hope the stupid Khmer leaders know what to do either to play or not to play and if the stupid Khmer leaders choose to play the Thaicong game and they must play to win!

that's bullshit to say that preah vihear sits on a sheer cliff accessible only from thailand. that is pure bullshit. the fact is that preah vihear can also be accessed from cambodia. even though this cambodian temple is located on top on the dangrek mountain, cambodia can easily build road up to it without any problem. there are just too many lame excuses by the thai to say that accessibility is only from thailand. that's bullshit for a thousand times!!!!! cambodia can make access from our side possible, so don't be so pushy, thai skunk!!!
Yes, anything is possible, but we should treat this as a Local Community Affair on both side of the fences. We need join effort here. That way, thing will get done faster.

Possible or not! Khmer leaders must see to the end that Khmer sovereignty must not be violated and with or without the Thaicong help and Khmer Preah Vihear temple can be developed!

The truth is the temple is built by our ancestors, and not all of our ancestors' descendant reside in Cambodia. Accordingly, would you mind reconsidered your judgment?
