Reforestation should start with the arrest of illegal logging offenders named by Global Witness

Administration Seeks Input on Reforestation

The government made a step toward repairing some of its lost forest cover Friday, adopting a sub-decree to help individuals, communities or even businesses apply for tree replanting.

Lim Sokhun, secretary of state for the Ministry of Agriculture, said this week the sub-decree aims to promote sustainable forests and help the environment.

Areas that can be nominated for replanting include those that are damaged by blight, disease, fire, illegal logging or typhoon.

Any individual or group can submit an area for reforestation, but they must be a Cambodian national and must live near the suggested area.

Cambodia has lost wide swaths of forest due to illegal logging since the 1990s.

I you don't have nothing to pay debt to China, Vietnam, US and feed army, I think cutting tree or else would be good for. But, at the same time, growing tree and continue growing tree is a must.

No, no, don't grow tree here. Find something else to do, will ya? we need room for farming and developing.

good to hear government have plan for reforestation. but I doubt this effort as illegal logging keep continue. The government should enforce the law and punish who violate the first before plan to reforestration. plant 10 tree and destroy 100 tree not good te

Okay, even if we want to save what we got left, that isn't as easy as it looks. It cost money to patrol the hundreds thousands of square kilometers of forest, and given the high fuel price today, I am skeptical if we can protect our forest from illegal loggers.

Hehe, they pretend to grow or regrow trees. You know what? For Mong Rithy or Teng Bunma these clowns grows marijuana for HUN SEN and ship them with big container to Australia and Europe.

If Hun Sen does't have more tree to cut and growing tree take it to long, making quick cash is to growing what you have said, otherwise, China, Vietnam, and US will demand for peice of land as colleteral. Vietnam is practicing now by moving bourdary inside Cambodia.
