Minister of Commerce, Mr. Cham Prasidh, has said on Friday that the volume of trades between Cambodia and Thailand had increased 10.56% in 2007, which worth US$1.404 billion in total.

During a launch of the Trade Expo of Thailand in Phnom Penh, which will run from 14th to 18th March, Mr. Cham Prasidh said that Cambodia exported goods to Thailand worth $US49 million per year.

The minister said that Cambodia is making great efforts to improve trades between the two countries.

He further said that Cambodia had provided an investment opportunity to Thai industries to set up shops and produce goods in Cambodia for exporting to countries that provide preferential treatments to Cambodian products.

Mostly, Cambodia exported raw goods such as fish, rice, and woods. Thai reproduce them in their factory and send back to sell in Cambodia and to the world with huge benefit.

It's true. Cambodia exported fish to Thailand and Thailand exported those finished products to Cambodia with exorbitant profits. It is a shame that Cham Praisdh boasted about $1.404 billion in two way trades but Cambodia only exported $49 million worth of goods. It means that Cambodia had a trade defifcit of $1.355 billion dollars. This means that $1.355 billion of Cambodian money every year go to the hands of Thai people. What a joke. The minister should hang his head in shame.

I don't see anything abnormal about this. It is just a result of being behind Thailand in manufacturing goods. Nobody can do better than we can, except for talk.

I think it is true that we are much behind Thailand and that is the reason that we must try double time harder than Thailand to improve our country. Not all people can be in mister position, therefore the one who is in the position must hold responsibility and open the ear to listen to other people, so that the decision they make gives positive effect to society as a whole. If they think that the responsibility is too high and they are not able to hold that responsibility, please get off and give chance to the one who can do that job.

Sound fair enough, 8:22, when one can show us that he can catch up with the Thai, will give him the job, alright?

well, start producing them in cambodia. why depend on thailand?

plus, with all the recent disputes with cambodia, thailand should not be allow to do businessess in cambodia. this is not how they can make friends with cambodia.

Wrong, it is suicidal to cut off import from Thailand. No one can afford American's goods here.

As for manufacturing, it is growing, but it will not catch up Thailand anytime soon.

Even vegetable Khmers have to cross the border to buy from Thailand in Poipet, Samlaut, Pailin, Kalai etc. Cambodia can do better than this if we have a competent and a responsible govt. and PM.

Well, that is just a local trading, some Thai love our veggies, and some of us love their veggies.

Cambodian economic mismanagement by AH Cham Prasidh will not benefit Cambodia in the long term!

At the end Cambodian will become consumer and slave worker!

Nonsense, if you mismanaged our economy, you can't be one of the fastest growing countries on the planet.

i don't know about other people, but me, personally, i'm not a bit surprise to know that thailand and to some extent vietnam imported a lot of fish and other raw materials from cambodia as cambodia is so rich in fish in its huge waters system in the whole of southeast asia (fresh water resources). so even the fish products one might see in your local asian market all across the USA, EU, Australia, etc., which often labeled products of thailand, vietnam, etc. when in actuality came from its raw sources in cambodia. and it is simple to understand this as cambodia is still lack behind in many way in technology like factory for these food stuff. i hope one day cambodia can turn this around to have products with labeled made in cambodia or product of cambodia; that would make cambodian people so proud to see that in the world's market. be optimistic, my people, khmer see live to see this sooner or later! remember cambodia has the richest fresh water fish sources in all of asia, if not the entire world. be proud of cambodia!

Cambodia is the fastest growing economy in what now?

Listen fool! When the experts said that Cambodia is growing fast and base on economic data and it showed that Cambodia is good place for consumer market!

Don't you see that the trade between the Thaicong and Cambodia worth $1.404 billon total and of out that Cambodia exported to Thailame worth $49 million a year? This is such a serious trade imbalance here which will become a serious economic issue in the near future!

I don’t see how Cambodian people can afford to buy billion of dollars worth of consumer products from Thailame because Cambodian riel is much cheaper and weaker against the Thaicong bat which should make Cambodian products more attractive to Thaicong population! But in this case the Thaicong products are attractive to Cambodian population? Am I missing out something here?

2:10, you are being to specific, here. Alright, so we have some trade deficit with some countries. So what? That doesn't mean we can't get surplus from others, does it?

Fuck you Vietcong bitch! Cambodia is getting a hand out from donor countries worth about $500 million a year!

True, but soon we will make transition out of all international aids. These are just temporary aids, dude.

Anonymous said...

That what your leader AH HUN SEN had been saying all these years!

ahhahahhahahahahahaaaah!

What is so funny? Just watch, we already estimated that time to be 2020. From that point on, the aids will start to get trim off at a rate of 16.6% annually until it become the big ZERO.
