PHNOM PENH, March 12 (Kyodo) - The United States claimed in a report released Wednesday that Cambodia's human rights record remains poor, although there has been a positive turn.
"The country's human rights record remained poor, but noted as a positive turn an unprecedented march and rally permitted in Phnom Penh on December 10 in observance of Human Rights Day and the arrest and detention of five former senior leaders of the Khmer Rouge regime charged by the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia with crimes against humanity," it said in the report.
Among the reasons cited for Cambodia's poor rating were security forces that act with impunity, arbitrary arrests, growing concerns over land disputes and forced evictions, endemic corruption, and the remaining challenge of addressing trafficking in women and children, it added.
Om Yin Tieng, chief of the government's human rights commission and adviser to Prime Minister Hun Sen, refused to give any comment on the report released by the U.S. Embassy, saying he needs to thoroughly study it first.
In a separate report released last week, the Asian Human Rights Commission said during the whole of 2007, criminal lawsuits and arrests in the context of political repression remained a concerning issue in Cambodia.
"Land grabbing was rife and remains one of the serious economic and human rights issues in the country today," it added.

-USA State Department human rights records represents one side on the story.
-Cambodian has many political parties.
-No restriction on people can do business.
-We have all sort of religious rights.
-Cambodian is much better than places many other countries.

When the world says in the same word that Human Rights situation in Cambodia is not improved it has become worse and worse, only those Human Rights violation perpetrators who have been trying to attack the world, to manipulate their own innocent peoples, and to jeopardize international human man rights agents.
Cambodian peoples are under fear and they are living in the a tiny space of well because national mass media is totally used by government party (CPP) to perpetuate their wrong-doing.

When you are looking at only bad side of UN without elaborating any evidences is part of your evil behavior. Just develop a little more for your future betterment when you utter something.
Regardless of other issues such as HR, WFP, Amnesty International, ....etc UN has tremendously supported Cambodia for peace, reserving international aids, and develop democracy in Cambodia. All the present gradual achievements in Cambodia absolutely explicitly helped by UN.
So, open your eyes and rethink again about world ideal NGO like the UN.

USA is good on doing report about other countries regarding Human Rights, however, USA is the biggest Human Rights abuse of all if you would look into the people or USA may called them "Terrorist Suspects" detained at Camp X-ray and Camp Delta.
6 years down the track, most of the detainees have not been charged nor have been released back to their countries of origin.
