ANUCHA CHAROENPO Bangkok Post
VIENTIANE : A joint committee could be set up to manage the area surrounding Preah Vihear temple on the Thai-Cambodian border after the prime ministers of both countries reaffirmed their commitment to solving disagreements regarding contested claims to the temple ruins.
Cambodian is set to propose Preah Vihear as a Unesco World Heritage Site.
Speaking after bilateral talks with Cambodian Premier Hun Sen on the sidelines of the Third Greater Mekong Subregion summit yesterday, Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej said a joint panel would be set up to try and work out issues surrounding the ancient site.
To speed up the efforts, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok An will visit Thailand soon, Mr Samak said.
''We (Thailand and Cambodia) want an easy way out because we have had a good relationship. Why do we have to make the matter more complicated?'' he asked.
Mr Samak stressed that Thailand would not block Cambodia's attempt to list Preah Vihear as a World Heritage Site. The area around the temple compound remains on an overlapping zone between the two countries.
The dispute over the temple was discussed by the two countries when Mr Samak paid an official visit to Cambodia.
After his visit, Bangkok agreed not to contest Cambodia's bid to propose the Preah Vihear temple - but not the surrounding land - as a World Heritage Site, as some of the surrounding area has not been demarcated yet.
Preah Vihear is on the Cambodian side but the main access to the temple is from the Thai side of the border.

Okay, good, looks like we are making progress.
Let me understand the Thaicong logic!
"Preah Vihear is on the Cambodian side...The area AROUND the temple compound remains on an overlapping zone between the two countries."
How the fuck is that possible when the Preah Vihear is on the Cambodian side and land surround the Preah Vihear is not? This is just another stupid Thaicong logic and to this kind of argument with Cambodian government is to look down on Cambodian people as little children! Fuck the Thaicong and their stupid logic!
I say fuck the Thaicong main access to the temple and Cambodia can build a new access to the temple and the fucken problem is solved!
This is Cambodian sovereignty and it is nonnegotiable!
After the verdict of the International Court of Justice declaring that Preah
Vihear belonged to Cambodia, Thailand built a good replica of Preah Vihear in what it calls Meung Boran (ancient country)in Samut Prakarn, about two hour drive from Bangkok. The construction of this replica is a testimony to the attachment of the Thai people to Preah Vihear.
But Thailand can only lose again when it raises of the Preah Vihear issue at a time when Cambodia wants to list this temple as a world heritage site: the Cambodian people's continued distrust and dislike of Thailand and the ensuing loss of Thai cultural and economic influence on Cambodia.
Easy access from Thailand to the temple is not effective levarage to hinder the listing of the temple as a world heritage site. Thailand would onbly lose if it were to block this access.
LAO Mong Hay, Hong Kong
What the Thai is contesting here is the land surrounding the Temple from the Thai side. The Thai is concerned that they may lose part of their land to the Khmer due to the establishment of the Temple to a World Heritage. The Thai should revive their historical fact that all the land they possess now belonged to the Khmer Empire and all other temples in other places inside the so called "Thailand" now were built by the Khmer Kings. The kings of Siam had no knowledge or ability to build those temples. Therefore, it is NOW more than fair if the Thai would yield their concern of what portion of former Khmerland they may lose to accomodate the Khmer built Temple of Preah Vihear. Only if the Thai leaders would have a slightest shame of their origin they would yield their childish concern of losing that little portion of the surrounding land that would properly accomodate the ancient heritage built solely by the Khmer Kings. Real human will choose honor over materialism.
Thai are not trustworthy people: Through out it history they sidelined with English and Japanese to avoid colonized, today it's with the Chinese, thus such tactics earns perfidious reputation amid her allies--especially with her surrounding neighbors. Thai people are thieve as the Viet are expansionist. And both, one day, will defy each other to influence the control of Indochina, and the Thai will ultimately bow to the Viet's economics and military mights. Then the Thai will eventually savor the tartness that once endowed to the Laos and Khmer people. What goes around will surely retort: Viet will harboring aggression from its rival enemy China as to the Thai with the Burmese. Oh...what a dog-eat-dog world.
How you so sure 12:14AM while the Viet is fuckup imn every thing never be their own boss for one it was pass from China to Franc to china, to Russia and may back to China again.
Compaire to Thai, Vietname is less than a shit in ecinomic, military, social, international relalation!
Every thing made from Vietname is a laked or poisoned!
What the fucking Viet has is a few mad dogs in Cambodia! and most are not in proper condition:
for exemple Ah Kwack Hun Xen is one!
Preah Vihear is on Cambodia territory. Period! Thailand is trying hard to get Cambodia recognize the fictitious thesis that the temple is on an overlapping territory the same manner that they successfully got Hun Sen to recognize the oil rich Cambodia seabed as an overlapping zone between the two countries. Cambodia government should ask Thailand to stop this game. Enough is enough!!! Our national sovereignty is sacred and Thailand had got to stop playing this game. Bullying in order to take back the temple that The Hague International Court ruled in Cambodia favour in 1962 is not definitely a sign of civilized country.
Hey, it's not a big deal. They don't want the temple. They just want to strait out the demarcation first before we jointly develop the area. Keep in mind that the Temple belong to Khmer-Thai also, and as such, they are allowed to access the temple as well.
"Keep in mind that the Temple belong to Khmer-Thai also": 3:13am
You Thai should know that your race is a thief. How much more do you want from the Khmer? Go to hell bad neighbor.
Fucking Thai will stand dying after Preah Vihear Temple is registered a world heritage this coming July.
Well, we can't registered shit unless they okay it.
To 5:08AM
Fuck you bitch! If you think that the Thaicong is your God and now it is time to worship them!
