13 houses were completely destroyed in a fire blaze in Ta Bib village, Bavet commune, Chantrea district, Svay Rieng province.
Chantha, a casino worker, told RFA while sobbing and crying that, when she received the information about the blaze taking place near the old Bavet market where her house is, she hurried home, but by the time she arrived, the house was burnt down to the ground.
Yin Dany, another woman who also lost almost all of her house to the blaze, said that when the fire started, she was not home, this is why she does not know what was its cause.
Sok Sam Ean, a Bavet commune councilor, indicated the blaze started at around 3:30 PM on 13 April, the first day of the Cambodian New Year celebration.
He indicated that the fire started from an explosion of a (cooking) gas tank at the house of Ta Penh while he was not home.
In the past few days, several fires took place one after another, such as the 11 April blaze which took place in Trapeang Chhouk village, Teuk Thla commune, Russei Keo district. This fire turned 520 families homeless. On 12 April, another fire took place at the construction site of the Naga Casino, located in Tonle Bassac commune. Today, this Bavet blaze is also occurring.
