PHNOM PENH, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian government officials have denied claims by Thailand that Cambodian troops have massed on the Thai border near Preah Vihear temple, the Cambodia Daily newspaper reported Saturday.
"Cambodia strongly denies that there has been any deployment of army and police in the area though there may be security guards protecting Preah Vihear temple and tourists," Foreign Affairs Ministry Secretary of State Ouch Borith said at a news conference here on Friday.
At the press conference, Var Kim Hong, Cambodia's senior government advisor on border issues, said the Preah Vihear border had been in place since the colonial era.
Thai newspaper the National and the Bangkok Post reported Friday that Cambodian Ambassador Ung Sean had been summoned to the Thai Foreign Ministry and told that the supposed troop build up violated a 2000 agreement not to modify a 4.6-square-kilometer disputed zone near the temple.
"This time we summoned the Cambodian ambassador to protest against them sending in troops and police and clearing landmines in the overlapping area in Thailand's Si Sa Ket province," the Thai Foreign Ministry's treaties and legal affairs department chief Virachai Plasai was quoted as saying in the Bangkok Post.
Thailand's protest to the ambassador is the latest flare-up in long-standing dispute over the temple and surrounding territory, which has intensified since Cambodia sought to have the temple listed as a UN World Heritage Site last year, the Cambodia Daily said.

And if there is deployment of troops near Preah Vihear in Cambodia, it is Cambodia territory, and it's bothering the Thai so much?
I mean why it's bothering the Thai so muc?
If we can't have preah viha, then we wouldn't leave you in peace. Khmerland is Thailand!
I think some thing wrong with thai mind on PREAH VIHEAR .if thai move his troop or kill many of khmer people we naver find out what was wrong doing or find the law of killing ,just kill right away .but PREAH VIHEAR Is our land .and our teritory.
they want in causion with us
9:18 You know that your comment is an absolue insult to Khmer people, right? Just ignore the idiot moran; he's Khmer, and he's here merely to taste the water. Therefore, please don't react disproportionately. In fact, he should be ashamed of himself.
If Preah Vihear is really a Thai territory, the thai army will never hesitate to attack Khmer people.
It is a shame that the thai nationalists are not the nationalists but the thieves .
you know, it is probably a sign that the internal system of the thai gov't is messed up or something because they can't seem to communicate to one another on the same page or something. it makes one wonders. they can't look perfect all the time, maybe it's their time to suffer the same fate cambodia did in the past few decades or so. like they say, nothing good can last forever without respect for cambodia. isn't it great that god made a civilization to decline once in a while. this is a true natural cycle of god and only god knows. what goes around does comes around, believe it or not. god bless cambodia.
The thai ignores the Haig world court decision that Preah Vihear and the surrounding areas are khmer territories. We should continue to do what ever is needed on our land there. Let thai government go back to the court again and it will be dissopointed and ashamed in front of the world.World court decision is irreversable.
I really admire and respect Mr. Var Kim Hong this time for exerting the Cambodian right against the Thai irresponsbile complaint. Bravo to Mr. Var Kim Hong. I have always heard that whenever Mr. Var Kim Hong negotiated Cambodian border issues with neighboring countires such as Vietnam and Thailand, he was always spineless and let the foreigners walked all over him every time while he was content to be the loser. Not this time, though. This makes me proud of Cambodia's representative Mr. Var Kim Hong. Bravo! Khmer scores!
