Phnom Penh - A Cambodian man has been charged with murdering his own father after becoming 'embarrassed' by village gossip that the man was a sorcerer, police said Thursday.
Penal police chief in the central province of Kampong Chhnang, Chim Bunthueon, said Tong Syleina, 20, attacked his father, Khat Tongly, 56, on Monday, hacking him to death with a machete.
He was charged late Tuesday evening.
'He admitted that he did the murder because he felt ashamed and embarrassed about village gossip that his father was a sorcerer. The villagers insulted his family with this talk and called him son of sorcerer and witch boy,' Bunthueon said.
Executions of accused sorcerers remain common in rural Cambodia, where people are often deeply superstitious and many lack even basic education.
If convicted, Syleina faces up to 20 years in prison.

This killer possibly has never heard of sak yant or sull, they are spells and sourcery deeply rooted in from the Hindu culture. What a senseless and meaningless killing, being THAT ashamed of a father who possessed such knowledge. The Thai's are known for their sourcery (derived from the ancient Khmers) you dont see them killing their own families because of that. Fucking idiot.
If you are too shameful because of knowledge that he acquired then divorce your father and move away from home.
After all, it doesn't mean who or what he is or was, he is still your biological father.
Why take his life?
Sorcerer has been a part of Khmer since day1. Only people who has been brainwashed by the west would feel ashame of his own culture.
I say give the idiot the max.
A lessons to be learned from all of this. Please don't let one apple spoiled the whole! We know what we have. They know what is belong to us. it's written in stone. The world recognized it. That's all we (Khmer) have to remember.

His son should've known that if his father is a true sorcerer...... he would of annihilate the whole village.
Why tolerate it! So sad!! The village is a contributing factors to the killing. Throw them all in the F@$#ing jail.
