“Pressuring businesspeople to help is not a good measure to ease economic problems because those businesspeople, once they have spent their fortunes, would want to recover them back through corrupt favours. A cycle of corruption would ensue, causing a vicious cycle and a catch-22 situation.”War! This a message from Mr. Hun Sen, if he loses the election. Mr Hun Sen sounded a little bit desperate when he made a speech to a forum of businesspeople recently in Phnom Penh appealing for their supports. The PM seemed to invoke fears among businesspeople and voters that if he loses the election there will be war. Point blank, he is sending a message to those businesspeople, the oppositions, the voters and the international community that he will wage a war if he loses the election (read his speech here).
Facing with economic woes, wage pressures from public servants and high inflation which surely will cause voters’ back clash, Mr. Hun Sen has been cornered and pelted from every direction. As history has shown in the past, when cornered, he has never been hesitant in using force to gain the upper hand.
While I welcome his appeal for help from the businesspeople, I do sense that his appeal is invoked with vitriolic, pressures and fears, both to those businesspeople and the voters. His appeal seemed not aimed at asking the businesspeople to assist the economy in general, but it was rather aimed at helping him and his Cambodian People’s Party to win the upcoming election. Pressuring businesspeople to help is not a good measure to ease economic problems because those businesspeople, once they have spent their fortunes, would want to recover them back through corrupt favours. A cycle of corruption would ensue, causing a vicious cycle and a catch-22 situation.
Mr Hun Sen’s supporters might think that what I am writing here is full of diatribes and rhetoric. But they have to agree with me that, with the Khmer Rouge being neutralised and incapacitated, the leader of the Cambodian Freedom Fighters being jailed in a foreign land and the oppositions having no army, who will wage a war, but Mr. Hun Sen himself.
With such a fiery speech coming out of Mr. Hun Sen’s mouth, whose recalcitrance and obstinacy is well known, one would conclude that his speech is a clear indication yet that, no matter what, win or lose, he will probably employ a Mugabe-style of clinging to power. I hope my prediction is wrong.

You see how savage this blind mad dog is. He is an absolute dictator just like Pol Pot. A fool from birth is a fool still. "Even if a fool be associated with a wise man for his whole life, he perceives the truth as little as a spoon perceive the taste of soup," said the Buddha.
My beloved Khmers!
The people of Khmers should psychologically and philosophically be awaken and stayed away from, "Eternal Recurrence," which we always should live our lives in such a way that if, at any point we have mentally awared that we would have to live our lives over and over again, but we would still unconscientiously nonetheless make the same choices....
That's Khmer mentality and Khmeritude.. just suffocatingly waiting till a last breathe and die in horror, physically and mentally unable to fight for their own freedom and justice!
The sooner the people are united to get rid of this mad dog, the better their chance to glorify their future.
His soldiers are the vietnames living in Cambodia. Apparently, he's confident. I just wonder whose he's fighting? or who is he defending? from what agression? From the vietnames occpupation? I would like Hun Sen to explain who is he fighting to predict WAR????
My beloved Khmers!
Samdech Dey Dek Cho Hun SenVarman might be once again went on morally and poliSickally to become a passionate and eloquent savior by repeatedly saying that he and Youns are twice liberating Srok Khmer from SamRainsy's Killing!
how unrealistic is this or is it just politics as usual? this requires thorough investigation or scrutiny. i wouldn't jump to conclusion so soon.
Now ,we see who is the dictator?Hun Xen is the dictator!!He like the war!!!
Khmers people have to consider about the election!!!We have to chang this dictator a way and vote new one!!!
The best one who go to the west!!!no china and youn Hanoi!!!
They are a lots in Cambodia,we don't need more to our country!!
Surely the words that came out of his mouth were something that is very unfortunate, in addition, as a leader of a free world, so he said, this should not be spoken if he is asking the supports from those investors.
This is a sign of faulter and weakness, specially coming from a leader. This would be his biggest mistake threatening the people he has come to protect. If those investors are a wisemen, then they should think twice before voting for Mr. Hun Sen again. "If CPP win then there would be no war." In simple translation: "If CPP lost then there will be war."
To start a war with your own kind is like killing your own race that he has come to sworn and protect...that is why Cambodians gave him the position in the first place. Now Mr. Hun Sen must come to reality and learn to except the truth that time has changed for the better and Mr. Hun Sen should be happily stepping down and pass on his position to someone else. One man cannot rule the entire country forever.
I thank you.

Politics of fear and distortion/manipulation has been professionally operated by Mr. Hun Sen and his cronies. On behalf of Khmers for the progress, this operation is not solely mechanized by Khmers, it must be by the conspiracy of foreigners to keep Khmers savaged forever.
Foreigners have no good intention for Khmers at all, and it is good chance for them to harm and destruct Khmers through few stupid leader such as Hun Sen.
Khmers peoples have to think about themselves, and think in mind that "we are silent, we die only and uselessly, but if we are waking up we can have two options: live and die. But we die usefully".
Hun Sen and his cronies are pushing Cambodian peoples stuck in the corner now.
With such words as "if CPP loses there will be war" is a clear indication that Hun Sen is not preparing to step down if he loses. Who has the weapons and army to fight a war? Only Hun Sen has. Also, who is he fighting with? Rainsy and oppositions don't have weapons and army, so they cannot fight a war. That's why I always think that his earlier comments about stepping down and handing over power was just hollow promises. Hun Sen should go quietly if he loses for the sake the people and the country. He must realize that no one can live forever and therefore, no one should rule forever.
This thought provoking statement made by Prime Minister is surely the sign of his ending political career in Cambodia. As a leader of a democratic society, one must not speak of discouragement, but to ensure the publics that whatever the outcome might be that he (PM) will support and except the results with open arms.
Cambodians in modern day and time will not just sit by and do nothing...they will respond because Cambodians today has gone through trainning or have some education that allow them to understand the dirty tricks that propagated by the government just for the sake of self interest and not the in the best interest of the country.
This is surely not in Sihanouk time or period, but new age has begun and new intelligence has emerged; thus, new breeds of young men and women understand more about today politics and never to let these moronic politicians to ever displace our home and power again...Power to the people.
I thank you.
