Prime minister Hun Sen showed his desire to end the use of royal honorific words for politicians who are members of the royal family. During a speech given at the inauguration of a library in Kratie province on Tuesday, Hun Sen indicated that he wants to remove the use of the words “Preah Ang Mchas” (Prince) and “Toul Bangkum Kh-nhom” (the word “I” used to address to a royal) at the National Assembly, the Senate and the government. Hun Sen added that: “We defend the monarchy, but a politician should not have different rank or different immunity from any another politician. If they are involved in politics, they should be equal. If you attack others, they will attack you back, you cannot claim that you are a prince and nobody can attack you back.” Hun Sen also said: “There are some princes who earn their respect because they are not involved in politics. But, if they are in politics, there’s no need to respect them.” Muth Chantha, NRP spokesman, said the use of royal honorific words existed since before the Angkor-era, they were not made up by the law or by Hun Sen. Muth Chantha considers the removal of the use of royal honorific words as a first step towards removing the monarchy.

I am not really pro-Hun Sen, but if the monarchy consists only low life idiots like Ranarith and Thomico, it really deserves removal. They are just one of disgusting wounds in our history.
Of course, Hun Sen should consider removing his Samdech title as well if he really wants EQUALITY.
Yeah, but that will be the first step to remove the Khmer culture, and no one will wanted that.
On the other hand, I don't see anything wrong with removing monarchy, despite it's part of Khmer culture, if it will created nightmare for Cambodia in the future. I am talking about as the number of royalists continue to multiply with time, they will have their differences, and they will divided the country and put us all on high risk.

I agree that monarchy has been long part of our own historical identity. Removing the monarchy would mean we abandon part of our identity. However, and as long as monarchy has power in politics, they will fuck us and this country up!! One commonality that royal family members have is that they are thirst of power!! This is their born nature. Except for only several great Kings like Jayavaraman, the 7th, all Kings have been just useless pricks and assholes. They know nothing but shit.
All current princes and princesses are better off living abroad as taxi drivers, store clerks, or social workers. So removing monarch after all is not a bad idea.
I'm not a supporter or a fan of royalty, but eradicating royal words is destroying Khmer culture and language.
Who is Hun Sen? He's no one, he was a poor farmer, with no formal education and he think he can command what not to do and what to do with reasonable logic. His speeches lack formal words and mannerism, it does not represent high class, good background. I don't like Hun Sen's policy that much, doing away with things, etc.
If he does want equality, I agree with 3:49, he must take that crummy title of "samdech" off his name.
Yeah, but you are looking at thing from westerner perspective, which is silly most of the time because they are deeply drowned in their own rhetoric. The truth is when you got it, you got it. Education can't help you, if you are a retard like Sam Rainsy, get it?
One must be equal before the law, therefore there will be no words for:
Prince/princess
Samdech or many more
Exellency
A common words for all class is:
comerade...even with monks or mum.
Also remove the words "Ah Aka Moha Seva Dey Chaur (thief)" or "ah Sam ach" Hun Sen (ah Hun Hun Sen Sdech-ah = ah Hun Sen Sdah-ach)
Those are the tricks of ah Hun Sen to sell Cambodia to Youns !
My beloved Khmers!
With an uncountable Ph.Ds, Hun SenVarman initially thinks that he obviously becomes the concept of man as a heroic being,
with his own skyhigh happiness he boastfully thinks that he absolutely has the moral purpose of his sudden Mighty king's life,
with his fake of a little achievement(as a savoir) he undoubtedly thinks that he successfully and genuinely has a highest noblest accomplishment..
In order to permanently remove the words, Preah Ang Mchas or Toul Bangkum Khnom, Hun Sen must be initially removed thees words,"Samdech Akkak Moha Sena Bat Dey Dek Cho Hun Sen" from his own TV stations first. If you guys watch TVK, you will be heard these word a thousand times per day.
This is only my illiterate opinion, the reason why Samdech Hun SenVarman insanely doesn't want to use this word, "Toul BangKum Khnom," because of his highest education and status... he is a father of all Khmer Kings, therefore all Khmer people must be used "Toul BangKum Khnom", when start talking to him.
I'm not a Sihanoukist nor a Hun Xenist. By this time as Hun Xen defyingly and cockily demands to abolish monarchy's words, King Sihanouk should realize that who is smarter in playing the game of politics?
To me, all honorary titles given to
these puppetic clowns are meaningless. They are just the deceptive lables to fool the the foolish. These puppets do not deserve such titles because none of them have enough respectable value and personality to be hinored. Respect and honor given is not as admirable as respect and honor hardly earned.
in my opinion, it's not like the first step to remove the monarchy; it is an advice for mr. hun sen that royalty and politics should not and ought not be mixed because this can and will interfere with the jobs of the the country's politicians. it's has nothing to do with anyone trying to abolish the monarchy in any way like some one suggested. well-educated khmer people have said again and again never a good idea to mix royalty in politics because if you analyze the term politics itself, it is a nasty word that name-calling, sarcastic, conflict etc. is a normal and a trademark of any politics in anywhere in the world, not just cambodia. please study or refresh your understanding of the political science 101 or something. again, royalty and politics should not be mix. if any member of the royal family wanted to be in politics, there ought to be an immunity for all politicians to talk politics with royalty. otherwise, what they are saying was member of royal family should stay away or steer away from politics. is that too much to ask? this a modern cambodia, not the dark ages. just look around the world, there are royalty all over the world, and they don't get involve in active politics like the khmer royalty. why can khmer royalty learn from other royalty of the world. why being so hard to communicate and understand? this is obvious not having national interest but only self-interest and if cambodia decided to abolish its monarchy because of this kind of problem, then i don't blame cambodia for doing so because royalty do not obey the law and they wanted to do whatever they please without regards to the law and the people's opinion. we might as well go back to absolute monarchy if we want to satisfied any royalty. not!!!! the law is royal family member, please stay out of politics is a fair warning; otherwise, do expect to lose royal privileges. thank you.
My beloved Khmers!
Life must be lived forwards, but also fully or partially understood backwards..
Sihanouk mustn't be godly involving in PoliSick at the first place, and he should be permanently remained as a King, unfortunately now what has he continuously done and destroyed to Khmer nation? Therefore, since Hun Sen officially becomes Samdech Akkak Moha Sena Bat Dey Dek Cho Hun SenVarman, he must be peacefully stepped down and stayed away from PoliSick!

It is indeed not to blame these idiot royal families but to blame ourselves to over exagerate their title. In most countries with Monarchy, only direct children of the King on the trone to have that title. THe rest, we have to see how far their connection to the king. Some of them such as Anduong family for example, we should call them ang mchas anymore. Thomico is the same. His father has never been a king, so he is not to be entitled to be called Ang mchas too. He is a trong and no other royal respected words to be carried with. Areak Prey
Monarchy shall not have any special treatment or title attached when entering to political arena.
Be reminded that enter politic and being a politician is meant that the person is a private property - is subjected to criticism, questions, liability, accountable for all related things to politic and therefore shall not be protected by the tittle
I supposed you can make anything you want, but I never heard of anyone become a public property by entering into politic before. They will all have their constitutional rights. I don't see any exception in the constitution for anyone.
hun kvak just want people to call him instead b/c he think he is a royal family from the peasant kompong cham. he just jelous. that's all. so if you all don't want that kind of words..then should vote for khmer republic!
don't be too extreme, people, please use some common sense. it is the opposite, meaning all politicians are public property not private property. meaning they belong to the nation and the people they represent. think of it this way, it is like a good running car. it takes a lot of people to put the car together in order for it to work properly. and the works were done on the assembly line. politicians are the same way, without the nation and the people they represent, they are nothing or they would have nothing to do. so everything takes the works and the cooperation of the entire population in order for it to work. thank you.
Well, people is not the same as object. The constitution is for people only, not object.
whether you are a king by blood line or by bullying/intimidating people to fake respect for you, the bottom line is you yourself only know if you are an asshole or not...it does not matter if I call you samdech in front of you, but utter the word asshole under my breath at the same time. You earn respect by doing good deed and true heroic things. So, "Haiy Aeuh, Haiy Aeuh ah Chaiy....
i think the prime minister request is an excellent concept because it prevent politicians from having double standard. nobody is above the law, you know! just call them congressman or congresswoman or judge or parliamentarian, etc, royal honorific title is good in the book, but outdated in progression of the country, i think. there ought to be reform in this field as well, you know!
