King Monivong died of sorrow over the loss of Khmer territories to Thailand, who will die of sorrow for the current losses of Khmer territories?

Translated from French by Tola Ek
History

1941. World War II. Japan was the greatest winner in “our” part of the world. Thailand was an ally of Japan. The latter, at the demand made by Thailand, exerted on the losing France (Vichy regime of Marshall Pétain) a terrible pressure to cede to Thailand the Cambodian provinces of Battambang-Banteay Meanchey, a large portion of the Cambodian provinces of Siemreap, Oddar Meanchey, Stung Treng-Rattanakiri, Pursat, Kampong Thom-Preah Vihear.

With the loss of such sacred Khmer territories, my maternal grandfather, H.M. King Sisowath Monivong, died of sorrow.

1947. With the help of the victorious France (that of General de Gaulle which was victorious over Hitler’s Germany and … Tojo’s Japan, during WWII), I (Norodom Sihanouk, King of Cambodia) had the historical privilege to recover for my Homeland, the Kingdom of Cambodia, the provinces and portion of Cambodian provinces cited above which Thailand (defeated along with Japan, during WWII) had (was obliged to) to give back to us, to us (Cambodia, the Khmer Nation and People).

1962. I won the lawsuit (regarding Preah Vihear) at The Hague International Court of Justice, which ordered [Thailand] to return to the Kingdom of Cambodia: the Temple and the Preah Vihear mount – temple and mount which Thailand militarily and illegally annexed.

In modern history, no Noroddom nor Sisowatt's has been known to be brave enough to challenge these two expansionists.

i have no sympathy with dying of sorrow. what use is that? how about doing something about it like taking action, be proactive or something along that line is more deserves to be remembered, but died of sorrow? should have sought psychotherapy or something. starting by changing the attitude would help tremendously. thank you.

it's funny how the past khmer elites can't even speak and write khmer, their own language. i guess they prefer to use only french. i wonder why? were they ashame to be khmer or something. it seems they prefer to use french or something over khmer. talk about setting good example as leader for the people. what kind of leader was that who were ashame to speak khmer the native and official language of cambodia. i strongly encourage all khmer people to start use our native language more, although i think english and french should be ok for usage as well. but by all means, make it a requirement to speak khmer a priority. i often heard some people would say, but if you want a good job, you have to speak good english and french. well, that maybe true outside of cambodia, but in cambodia, khmer is the official language, hello!!! don't forget that! it seems like they only use french. what was that all about?

1949,Sihanouk ignored and gave Khmers in Mekong Delta to Yuon,

1954 Siahnouk ignored other freedon fighters Khmer Sereika and Khmer Communists from joining the nation,

1968 Shanouk leased eastern provinces to Viet Cong,

1970 Sihanouk declared war on Khmers,

1975 Sihanouk killed millions for his personal vemgeance,

1997 Siahnouk condoned a coup d'etat led by a dictator of communist school,

2004 Sihanouk fabricated death game to have his son annointed king,

2006 Sihanouk ignored the outrages from people over illegal treaties and border violations,

2006 Sihanouk insulted Killing Fields victims by saying the Court is a waste of fund and bones must be destroyed,

2007 Sihanouk elevated dictator to be his boss and demo god,

2008 Sihanouk invoked how coward his family to stand up to own responsibilities,

What will he die from? Lies and hatred, may be.

About we have french educational system dude! And we need to compete with other people in asean1 you want us to be 3rd. drad worker in the world ? 3:26AM.

3:48am, your argument doesn't make any sense. it is ok to adopt a system, however, it is not ok to prefer to use french, as the past elites did, over the native khmer language which is a very beautiful ancient language of cambodia. i mean, it is alright to use french or english as the second language, however, my point is khmer people, especially the top leadership, should not be ashame to speak khmer fluently. what's up with that? again, it should be ok to adopt any good system because this is how the world evolved, historically by adopting one thing or another from each other such as a system of gov't, an educational system, etc. but it is not ok for its leaders to forget its own native language.

by the way, i'm so proud and i'm also applauding mr. hun sen for speaking in khmer at the UN. it put a huge smile on my smile seeing that our leader is so proud to speak khmer in the world. this is why the entire world have translators for every language. i'm so proud of our leader speaking khmer to the world. god bless cambodia.

In history,Cambodia had always lost its lands since the death of Jayavarman VII because of foreign countries.

The mongol Kubilai Khan helped the Siamese to be independant khmer and to take Khmer lands.

Japan hepld the Thai to invade Cambodia during the world war 2.

France helped Vietnam to invade Cambodia which lost Saigon and Khmer Krom.

The US were against the vietcong but they were with the vietminh.

So, even If we can change the History, I dont know which one is the best for Cambodia.

This is exactly why the Khmer People must take back control of Cambodia from westerner trained people. Not only do they lost Khmer lands, but also Khmer wealths, and leave everyone in poverty.

Thus, vote for Real Khmer CPP for 2008 again if you want to get out of poverty ASAP.

Another Sisowath died for what he believed in: Sisowath Sirimatak.

His letter below is a testimony.

LAO Mong Hay, Hong Kong

KI-Media Note: The following is the content of Prince Sirik Matak’s letter to US Ambassador John Gunther Dean, as reported by Ambassador Dean.

Phnom Penh 12 April 1975

Dear Excellency and Friend,

I thank you very sincerely for your letter and for your offer to transport me towards freedom. I cannot, alas, leave in such a cowardly fashion. As for you, and in particular for your great country, I never believed for a moment that you would have this sentiment of abandoning a people which has chosen liberty. You have refused us your protection, and we can do nothing about it.

You leave, and my wish is that you and your country will find happiness under this sky. But, mark it well, that if I shall die here on the spot and in my country that I love, it is too bad, because we all are born and must die (one day). I have only committed this mistake of believing in you the Americans.

Please accept, Excellency and dear friend, my faithful and friendly sentiments.

(signed) Sirik Matak

LOL, Dr. Lao, the letter clearly show Sarimatak self-acknowledged to his own mistake. Thus, how do we know what he really died for. Can you spell it out for us?
