PPenh governor looks down on voters, telling them to raise pigs and chiken, plant crops and leave politics to politicians exclusively

Kep Chuktema asks people not to join any demonstration called for by politicians

Tuesday, April 22, 2008
Rasmei Kampuchea
Translated from Khmer by Socheata

Kep Chuktema, Phnom Penh city governor and Hun Sen’s personal advisor, called and warned 2,000 people in Dankao district, saying that he asked the Phnom Penh people to remain quiet and not to be fooled by some politician’s propaganda asking them to join an anti-inflation demonstration, and demanding for higher wages, so that these people can avoid any danger like the one which took place in 1975.

Kep Chuktema made this claim during an inauguration of a road construction site in Kraing Thnung commune, Dangkao district, in which 2,000 people participated, in the morning of 21 April 2008.

Kep Chuktema indicated: “I ask all of you to think and not to believe propagandas made by the politicians. Leave politics to politicians, you should work in the field and produce the crops, raise pigs, chicken, ducks, cows, buffalos, fishes, plant vegetables to sell in the Phnom Penh market so that you can improve you family living condition.”

He explained that demonstrations cannot resolve anything, and they can only create unrest and havoc in Phnom Penh, and if the demonstrators destroy shops, jewelry stores, markets, and they start looting, then who would be responsible?

Kep Chuktema indicated that the government of Cambodia led by Hun Sen bring safety over 100% of the country, and it pushed up the price of lands, improved the livelihood of the population, and they have no fear, why then some would want a demonstration that creates unrest in the country and the city, and it will also lower the price of land as well? What is the goal (of those who want to hold the demonstration)?

Kep Chuktema claimed: “You can trust us, we are city governor, we are prime minister of the country, we defend and protect the city, and provide good security and safety, people have no fear. We are not dumb to let somebody do anything they please. I, the city governor, hace the duty to protect security for the people, we do whatever for the people until we achieve it.”

Eng Chhai Eang, SRP Secretary-general, said in the afternoon of 21 April, that the SRP only plans to hold a demonstration, and the SRP did not set a definite date yet, it is still waiting to observe the situation first.

Regarding Kep Chuktema’s call on the people not to join any demonstration, Eng Chhai Eang said: “The holding of a demonstration is the right of the people as stipulated in the Constitution. People can join the demonstration or not, it’s the people right.”

It is not politics, you boldhead!! it is about the government not doing anything to curb this skyrocketing price of the rice and fuel. What happens to democracy when people are the one who decide what should happen to their country by voting and their freedom of expression?

Excellent advice from the Governor of Phnom Penh.

Thank you.

Incredible! a Governor of Phnom Penh advises to the grass roots to stop thinking and to lead their life like a dog while they have to face to the the high cost of living!
Better to say that you are all incompetent to resolve the problem of inflation and to control the anarchy of goods price in the market, bastard Governor!!!

As a Khmer people, I would like to urge all Khmer people to be polite as this is an attitude that identify Khmer nation. I agree that the government does not do enough to help balancing the living cost and living standard of people. However we should also look at the world situation, even Japan and US also face higher price. The impact to people in Japan and US is not strong like that of Cambodian, however the higher price of food shows us that even very good and rich governments also have difficulties to solve the problem.
Personally I think the opposition party should can propose the solutions to the government to solve the problem, not only ask people to held protest against the government. If their solutions are good but the government doesn't want to follow then, all Cambodian people, even member of CPP, must protest and force the government to follow the solutions from the opposition.

Demonstration's purpose is only for the opposition party's popularity increase. It will not solve the problem. I hope everyone can read Sam Rainsy's mind that he is not doing for the country but for his party and power. He uses khmer people to achieve his power ambition. He uses people's weakness to gain power.

This is my opinion, a khmer student at Hawaii.

To avoid all the politicizations of demonstrations, I suggest to the government advancing the date of the general election in May, 2008.

Earlier will be organized the elections, better is for the government.

My beloved Khmers!

Kep Chuktema's submissive statement to the miserable and poor Khmers for simply giving up their right and freedom of choices must be magnificently dismissed, because his suggesting silence mastermindedly is the only response to all such nonsense. Ironically, why didn't he openly and honestly say,"You miserable dirty Khmers don't intentionally involve in PoliSick, so my job is permanently stable!"?

Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must always be silent..

That's the reason why Khmer's leaders intention, like Sihanouk, Nol Lon, Pol Pot, and Hun Sen, to keep all the poor and miserable Khmers not acknowledgeably and comprehensively involving in PoliSick!

The holiday feast is finished.
The serious things begin.

Earlier the general election will be organized it is better for the government to avoid the situations of the type of Georgia in 2003 or Tian An Men square in China in 1989 which are situations very difficult to control for the government.

The surprise can be an advantage strategic decisive in a fight for the aggressors.

All the military strategists know well it.

It's not one's attitude that identifies the Khmer nation. Each person's attitide identifies only that person. Be polite to the humble, but never be polite to the vulgar man. If one bends too low one might be trodden on.

The early legislative election is going to upset all the strategies, the laborers, the secret negotiations and the plans of battle of the political parties opponents: demonstrations, strikes, meetings , campaign, are going to be all upset.

This is not the first silly comment he has ever made. He has made many uneducated comments so far. I remember him urging people to eat dogs to solve the stray dog problem in the city.

This is what communists and dictators do - silent people. This government will not be afraid to kill any demonstration that express the free will of the people.

This type of statement then brutality and massacre that non-violent struggles cannot continue.

It's about time that people pick up guns, knives, axes hoes and any kind of weapons chop this man head, and kill these monsters to take back the right as a human beings, free with liberty and civilize government.
Talk and demand will not get people anywhere.

i think mr. kep chutama may need an education on voters' rights and citizen's rights. must gov't official like him forget that they are appointed to their position to help represent the people of phnom penh as a city manager, instead, they seems to think that they have the rights above the law or something. they really need to have some attitude adjustment or something. they are doing a disservice to the people of phnom penh when they think they are above the law - not!!!

when you're a high gov't official, pleas act like one because cambodian people expect their official to act appropriately as they are distinct from ordinary people. otherwise, how can people respect them if they act in conduct unbecoming an officer of gov't. just a reminder. sometime people higher up need to be retrained in customer services or something like that as they are serving the nation and its people. i hope they should never forget that!

Dear belove khmer people,
I would like to express my idea regarding to the politics and economy in the country recently, what is happening and will be going on in the future if this country under the control of Hun Cen and his cronies? as you guys known it very well, under his control and management our country are going to impoverishe, they are selling all of resources (natural and human ) in many ways such as gas, oil, forest, fish, land, and furthermore, they are selling Cambodian young generation of human resource from high educated people to low educated people especially for cambodian woman to work or to do prostitute at abroad through migrant or marriage to the stupid people like Korean and Taiwanes man, and etc. Furthermnore in recenlty, the cambodian peoples are facing with the skyroketing of goods that affecting to the standard of living condition of people. based on these reasons, I would like to ask your guys to join with us to welcome any opposition parties to use people power to kick the Hun Sen's and his cronies out of the government. anyways, all the opposition parties should strongly and stricly focusing on the processing of NEC (National Election Committee), because HunCent, and his cronies like NEC are going to make something fraud relating to the resul of election. however, this concerted action should be done after the result of election.
Cheer,
People Power (Ps)

This language has been used all a long for a controling culture.

Please stop considering politician is a man with power, threat and killing...etc.It is no longer relevent to time and comprehension of human being.

Your statement sounds like you are one of the lickspittles, Mr. Neang SA. Come on, A "politician is a wise man...?" Take a little more time to think about your statement and rewrite it. Give some names of Khmer politicians whom you refer to as wise politician, will ya? show the concrete supportive proof of your statement, please. What role are you trying to play in this KI media?

Rainsy uses khmer people to gain his political ambition. Mr. Hun Sen has used all his time and power to save the country from the Killing Fields. Unlike some rats who ran away from its own country when there were problems and returned back to seek people when Mr. Hun Sen did all these years to save the country.

who cares about personal stories like the love triangle. leave that for the movie industry. thank you.

You are one of those who are ignorantly fallen into the political trick of Hun Sen.

Power is in his hand. So it means he can create both peace and war. In order to eliminate or threaten his opponents, Hun Sen has always created social stability so that he can gain both: get rid of his opponent, and get support from some few ignorant person like you.

Learn to use your brain more about the trick of politician.

If dirt poor Cambodian people remain silent and they will die in silent just like during the Khmer Rouge!

I have to wonder what does it takes for Hun Sen government to do something to help dirt poor Cambodian people. Does it takes the cry of little baby who is hungry for food for him to do something?

Dirt poor Cambodian people can only do so much for Cambodia to be a great country and it is Hun Sen government job to make their life easy by curbing inflation and bring peace of mind!

Dear People power

I understand that you are the SRP supporter and you want all the people to be together in order to change the current situation of Cambodia. I have no doubt about it and appreciate your high ambitious for our people.

However, regarding to the word you use with the student studying in Hawaii I think it is not proper at all. Though the Hawaiian student say something right or wrong you supposed not to criticized him/her because He/she has mentioned that it is his/her personal opinion.

Please be a true Cambodian. "Gentle, Dignity and Polite are our culture characteristic".

PS: I am not CPP or SRP supporter. Welcome your comment if you have.

Please... Cambodia need highly educated like you all to develop in the correct way. If you need to express your pinion please treat others in respect so they can listen and accept your idea. I believe that we can come up with the good solution for our country.

Why not say something useful rather than blaming each other???

Mr. Kep Chuktema is stupid, blaming the people not to express their opinion about their living environment and obliging the people to only living with traditional way.

In democracy, such leader is totally unacceptable. My three year old brother might surely tell me he is not doing the right thing.
