Prince Ranariddh said that his return home is currently facing obstacles because of the conditions set by Prime minister Hun Sen are not acceptable to the prince.
During a phone call from his exile in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the prince told RFA that accepting any of the conditions imposed on him would be a political suicide not only for himself, but also for the NRP, his party, as well.
Prince Ranariddh said: “They have set 3 conditions: (1) I must write an apology letter to those who gave me hardship, just like what Mr. Sam Rainsy did. I cannot do this because I did not commit any mistake to the nation or to the country at all. (2) They said that, I, Norodom Ranariddh should stop being involved in politics. If I stop getting involved in politics today, tomorrow I can return back home right away. I am telling you: Norodom Ranariddh cannot stop being involved in politics. I cannot accept this second condition, Sir. And for the third condition, they said that I must lead the Funcinpec party again, I am telling you: I cannot return back home.”
In reaction of the prince’s announcement, Khieu Kanharith, government spokesman and CPP spokesman, said that the prince’s claims are merely his political game to hide his own offences only.
Khieu Kanharith said: “Samdach Hun Sen never interfere in Prince Ranariddh’s problems. We already know that, regarding letters, it was in fact the prince who wrote letter(s) to Samdach Hun Sen to nominate his people to negotiate his case. Samdach Hun Sen even showed these letters to reporters also. The prince legal case is a criminal case. But, we know that, if Funcinpec, the plaintiff, pulls out its complaint, then arrangements could be made, however, when the prince saw that, he thought that Samdach Hun Sen was setting conditions. The prince and Samdach Hun Sen are not in any quarrel with each other. Furthermore, Samdach PM only wants to help coordinate, but when it comes to conditions, there were none.”
Prince Ranariddh has been living in exile for the past several months, following the sentence handed down to him by the Phnom Penh municipal court in regards to the sale of the party property lawsuit brought up by Nhiek Bun Chhay, the prince former colleague who is now the party secretary-general.
Regarding this lawsuit, Prince Ranariddh accused Hun Sen of being behind the attempt to kill his political career, but Hun Sen kept on insisting that this problem is the prince’s personal issue.
Prince Ranariddh said also that his absence from the country, especially, during the upcoming general election, will not allow this election to be held freely and fairly.
Nevertheless, government officials and national and international observers said that, even with the absence of the prince, the NRP can still pursue its activities in the upcoming election.

No need for you to come back, Ranarith. Aren't you ashamed of yourself at all? The first election you won 60 seats; the second you won a few; the next you might win NO SHIT! You are much worst than a pagoda kid. You let a pagoda kid kicks your ass, a palace kid!
Samdech Krom Preah should return back home to kick ah psychopath Sdach ah Hun Sen (Hun Sen Sdah ach) out of Takhmau.
You don't know your Ranarith well enough, dude. I mean you know him as little as a spoon perceives the taste of soup!
Hun Sen is not the law, therefore he has no right to set conditions for anyone's return to Cambodia, not only for Ranariddh but for any Cambodians. Ranariddh has every right to live in Cambodia as any other Cambodians. His conviction was politically motivated. His exile was unconstitutional. The constitution stipulated that no Khmer citizens can be exiled. The three conditions set for his return are not relevant to his conviction.
1. Write a letter of apology to Hun Sen? What for? What did Ranariddh to do to Hun Sen to warrant any apology from him. It is Hun Sen who need to apologise to Ranariddh for mistreatments and maltreatments of Ranariddh since 1993.
2. Quit politics. Under the constitution, Ranariddh has every rights as any Cambodians to enter politics. There is no laws forbidding any Khmer from entering politics, so the choice of staying in politics or quitting politics is entirely Ranariddh's.
3.Ranariddh must return to lead Funcinpec. Ranariddh never left Funcinpec. It was Funicinpec, and espicially Nhiek Bunchhay under instructions from Hun Sen, who ousted Ranariddh. If they kicked him out why should he return? Also, Hun Sen cannot dictate what party Ranariddh must lead, the same as Ranariddh cannot dictate what party Hun Sen must lead.
If Ranariddh was convicted of a breach of trust, then he should be punished for that. Any conditions for his return must be relevant to that conviction. Dont' think that because you are a PM, you are the law.
Hey, 7:46, if Ranarith comes, he comes to kick your butt for not helping hard enough to win the second election.
Dear Rannarith, you have destroyed your own life and your own political life. As a married man with a wife and a number of children, you have refused to take responsibilty even for your wife and your children, what else can you do for Cambodia? Cambodian people have given a chance to be the leader of the Nation, a very high position so that you can improve the immage of your family destroyed by your father for his association with Pol pot to destroy Cambodia and Cambodians from 1970-1979, but you still failed to honour with Cambodians people by concentrating your corruption actvities, womanising activities and ignoring your obligation to lead Cambodia into a Nation with rule of Laws. Now, I suggest to you that you should stop your political life by going back to France to continue your lecturing job before they sack you indefinitely. Areak Prey
Well, that's good; he deserves your recommendation.
Anonymous 823, You are wrong about that. He is not only a PM, HE IS THE LAW OF THE LAND! He make up rules as he goes. He did the same thing to Sam Rainsy, expelled him from the country and then restricted him from entering. If you haven't already figure it out, the man own the country. Constitutional Law? Sorry! He dictate that too. FYI! Ranariddh wasn't ousted by HS, he was bought out by Hun Sen. As far as Ranariddh go; he can stay the hell out of Cambodia for all I care. Matter of fact, I wish HS would strip him and his dad of his naturalizations. With that said and done, I dare you to challenge HS of his LAW. ^j^
Even he is allowed to enter the country, which means a disaster, this idiot should know that he never get even a single ballot from the people. I am sick of this bastard always barking like a dog!! This political prick is worse than animal!
I am not a fan of ah kwack and his gang of orang outang , but I think ah prince condom got what he deserves .
Like his father ah sdach moha kboth cheat who have his palaces in Peking and Pyongyang , this clown prince should stick his ass in Malaysia or Paris and die there......
Cambodia do not needs your clan of royal family anymore !!!!!!!!
You're right, 8:09. Nobody did anything to him. He just doesn't deserve to be the Cambodian leader. He completely failed to honour all people who voted for him. He's not honest to all suppotive members of his own party. He did not live up to his people's expectation. He's much less than a politician. And what else can his people offer him, except to say 'bye-bye' you disloyal prince! A prince who lack moral standard cannot be a good leader. And Hun Xen is not a leader; he's a savage ruler.
That is a good news. Rannarith,
you have got your chance and you blew it big time. I really don't know how you got your PhD. You just don't have the brain to justify that degree. The right thing to do now would be humanitarian. There is nothing left politically for you or your royal parties. Stop kidding yourself, and please stop fooling your people. Enough is enough.
